As you might suppose from its title "Ms. Holmes - The Death of Peter Blackheart" is a case from the portfolio of the investigations carried out by a relative of Sherlock Holmes.  Developed by Elephant Games, this Hidden Object Adventure title is available in Collector's Edition format.  The game casts you in the role of Sharlotte Holmes requiring you to set out to investigate the case of an old school friend who has been accused of a brutal murder that involved the victim being pinned to a wall with a harpoon in the form of a symbolic gesture.

Once you have carried out the usual Elephant Game adjustments permitted to the playing environment to suit your playing style.  You can select from a choice of difficulty levels such as Casual, Advanced, Hardcore or Custom.  These difficulty levels offer varying degrees of assistance and the charging rate for the game's Hint feature.  An optional tutorial will lead you through the game's various features including the available tools arranged across the base of the screen.  These tools consist of a map, current task, inventory, Strategy Guide and hint feature that is in the form of an owl.

Sharlotte's investigation of the murder will be conducted in a series of tasks that often involve the use of codes and the discovery of secret rooms and areas as she travels between different locations.  In some cases Sharlotte will require motorised transport when moving between locations.  In one case the transport involved a deliberate car crash, and often require the creation of a route on a map.

Other types of puzzles will be encountered during the game.  You might need to link together different tasks in order to create the required results or arrange a number of items based on their size and colour or put together the pieces of a piece of evidence to connect the events that fit the discovery of actual evidence.  You will also need to make use of hand/eye coordination when you need to save a man from drowning in one particular scene.

As usual Hidden Object game play will need to be tackled.  Different ways will be used to preset the items you need to find within the accompanying areas and the scene of the crime.  Sometimes featuring a small window or the full screen, you could be asked to locate items presented in text format, shown as silhouettes with some requiring a necessary task before selection, available in pairs or needing the addition of parts of a circle to complete the scene.

Overall I was disappointed with this title as the story line felt rather bitty and the game's ending was flat.  You can download this game from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $19.99 or from Big Fish Games priced at £10.49.  The game requires a 2.5 GHz processor with 1024MB of RAM and 883MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and latter.
