As part of its Book Traveller’s series of Hidden Object Adventure titles, Elephant Games has released “A Gothic Story”.  This title, which is available in Collector’s Edition format, casts you as a young woman called Megan.  Looking for a book to provide bedtime reading, Megan settles on a copy of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” which might seem to be an unusual choice for a late-night reading session but, at least, it delivers an opening for the adventures Megan will need to face in the tale that follows.

After getting use to the different items of screen furniture and before settling down to her night reading session, Megan receives a summons to report to the Great Library to assist in the solving a problem.  However while attempting to respond to the summons, Megan finds herself mysteriously transported to Count Dracula’s residence.

Not only did Megan find herself not where she expected to be but she was the prime candidate to take on the position of Dracula’s fourth wife.  Megan quickly found herself taking part in the first stage of the interview process which involved various tasks set by Dracula’s current group of three wives.  Making up this group was Beatrice, Irma and Leila.  With his wives taking the lead in the choice of the next addition to the family, Dracula was taking the opportunity to rest his powers which had recently become sadly reduced.

The reason for the attempt to provide Dracula with another new bride had been brought about following Dracula meaning a strange man who had suggested Dracula recently lack of strength could be resolved by him taking a new bride.  As this meeting and advice offered was not part of the original story, Megan realised that the original novel had become infected and would need to be investigated by a Book Traveller who might be able to restore the original story.

The game then deals with Megan’s actions to search for clues and how best to put matters right.  As she searches for clues to the changes to the original story, more alterations began to appear in the original story with the appearance of a Headless Horseman and the Frankenstein monster that had somehow split from its master.  The appearance of a witch and the realisation that a certain type of flower could adversely effect plenty soon added to Megan’s work load regarding the elements that need restoring.

You can assist Megan by investigating scenes, completing numerous puzzles and tackle a variety of Hidden Object scenes that sometimes involve more than a single scene.  The game’s ending does suggest the possibility of a follow-up title being considered.

You can download “Book Traveller – A Gothic Story” from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $19.99 or from Big Fish Games priced at £11.88.  This title will require a 2.5 GHz processor with 1024MB of RAM and 922MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
