When Glaciers Melt

Creating mosaics can help solve the issue of melting glaciers.

The next product to become the focus of my attention is Hidden Riddle Glaciers Mysteries.  This is a puzzle title whose content was not quite what I was expecting when first decided to play it.  Initially I  was under the impression that I would need to solve a series of text based riddles but this was the case.  While some solving was required, the puzzle element was of the Japanese Crossword or Nonogram category.  There was some text but this was reserved for the game's back story which progresses through meetings between characters.

Set in an area of Norway, the game features a picturesque village where the local inhabitants are more than content to enjoy the benefits that come with tourists terming up to marvel at the various glacier displays near the village.  However a local resident, named Astrid, noticed that a particular area of glaciers had started to melt.  When the local sheriff Magnus was informed of this melting, he felt it was just a natural occurrence.    This did not satisfy Astrid and so she called for help from her old friend, a leading investigator, called Detective Louise.

It will be your task to help assist with the investigation that follows as you need to visit various locations as you work your way through 150 levels of Nonogram game play.  The game levels are split between five groups of 30 Nonogram grids as you use the numeric clues arrange across the top and down the left side of the grids.  By switching between the six layers, each representing a different colour, you can develop a mosaic and complete the grid,  As you progress through each set of 30 Nonogram grids, you will be presented with an occasional cut-scene that develops the story line and will be accompanied by a portion of a 3D scene.

By slotting these pieces together and filling a silhouette shape you will create an access route to the next location, making up the game, and the next group of 30 Nonogram grids.  In order to complete this transfer operation, you will need to solve a separate image puzzle.  This puzzle consists of a series of circular bands which need to be rotated so that they blend together and form the necessary scene.

The settings of this game allow you to adjust its various volume levels for background music and sound effects plus select from a choice of tile sets.  There is also an option for playing in either Casual or Advanced difficulty which has the effect of greying out used clues once used or waiting until a row or column is completed.

Hidden Riddles - Glacier Mysteries can be downloaded from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $9.99.  The game requires a 1.0 GHz processor with 512MB of RAM and 195MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
