Creative Zen Air Earbuds

Image of author
This is the latest set of small in ear earbuds from Creative. They connect via Bluetooth so you get a cordless connection. This allows you more freedom to move around that little bit further away up to around ten metres or maybe a little less according to what the walls are made of.

In the outer cardboard box is an inner white plastic container this is 6.5x5.5x2.5cm and this contains the earbuds. Also in the outer box is a short USB ‘C’ to USB lead to charge the container and a couple of difference sized gels as well as a small Quick Start Guide.

The container with the earbuds weighs 46 grams and the buds within it weigh only 5 grams each.

Before staring you should charge the container. After charging when you open the container the front will show a green light for a short time and after that the green light will start flashing green until you have paired with your phone or other device.

I have reviewed several other Creative sets of earbuds and normally within a short time the item appears in a list of Bluetooth items ready to pair with.

Here it did not and it did not flash green I tried all sorts of things but I could not manage to pair it, after several days of trying I reported it and they were ready to send me a replacement unit, I tried once again and while trying the doorbell went and it was several minutes till I got back to the unit and there top of the list was Zen Air and it paired and worked correctly.

Later I tried again on another phone and this also paired so perhaps the motto is if it does not pair straight away go and make a cup of coffee.

As I live in a home with solid walls I never get to 10 metres probably only around 7 metres however I don’t think anyone should let their phone out of their line of sight certainly not when away from home.

The earbuds are a snug fit as the gels have to support the weight of the bulb and the 1.5cm arms.

I am not going into all the things that can be done on the actual units as this varies from left or right earbud and the length of touch, all are explained in the Quick Start Guide.

There is a good amount of noise cancelation available on the earbuds also settable from the unit. The amount of charge remaining can be seen from the Bluetooth screen on your phone.

Total play time is 18 hours on the container that is 6 hours in the buds and another two charges of the buds before you need to find a USB port.

At the time of publication the Creative Zen Air is available from Amazon for £54.99
