Rescuing Christmas

Your skills at Hidden Object game play will be required to help a mother save her daughter and rescue Christmas

It has been a while since I last had the opportunity to review a Bridge to Another World title.  However, thanks to Friendly Fox and its festive product, that gap has ended with the arrival of Bridge to Another World – The Christmas Curse which is available in Collector’s Edition format.  This Hidden Object Adventure deals with the actions of a young woman, called Elsa, who is trying to find her missing daughter Lily.  With the usual set of adjustable options, including a choice of French, German or English versions, this game can be played with a difficulty level selected from Casual, Advanced, Expert or Custom levels.

Most of the game’s action will be set around the North Pole.  You will be transported to this snow-bound area by a magical snow globe which has a hunger for a diet of red fish.  Once located in this area, Elsa will meet a variety of characters and be expected to tackle numerous tasks as she searches for her daughter and discovers the reason behind recent disruptions.  Among her discoveries Elsa will meet her parents, who put her up for adoption many years earlier, and attempt to bring about reconciliation between two brothers who were both born on Christmas Eve.

It is these two brothers who play a major part in the story that follows.  One of the brothers will develop into Santa Claus while his twin brother becomes Krampus, complete with a set of horns, with a desire to kidnap children who become his playmates.  The intention of Krampus is to take over Christmas and its associated magic through his skill at using evil spells helped by the antics of pixies who like nothing better than playing tricks.

As Elsa searches for her daughter, who has become a Krampus victim, Elsa will need to rely on assistance from different characters.  Trapped inside the magic snow globe, mentioned earlier, a helpful penguin, called Jasper, who can, with your help, relate the story of two brothers which will guide you on your task.  You will need to find the red fish to feed the snow globe and then remove the pieces of memory that do not fit in with the true story.  Other characters include Ms Claus, who needs rescuing from Krampus, Polaris, a bright star, and ChillyFluff in its snowman guise.

The game features a variety of tasks will need to be complete in the form of mini puzzle games and Hidden Object scenes.  In the case of the former you might need to duplicate patterns, arrange strips to form a scene or balance along a fallen tree to cross a gorge as you untangle an arrangement of cords.  With Hidden Object scenes you could be asked to find matching pairs, parts of a scene, place stencils over items in a scene or locate items listed in text format or as silhouettes.

You can join Elsa in finding Lily by downloading the Bridge to Another World – The Christmas Curse from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $19.99.  It is also available from Bog Fish Games priced at £11.92.  The game requires a 1.8 GHz processor with 1024MB of RAM and 2.35MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
