Acer TravelMate P4

This is a powerful Notebook from Acer that is very fast and while not a featherweight at 1.41 kilos it is very solid so should stand the odd knock or three. It still has the ability to be used in an office environment as it has Ethernet and a full sized HDMI port. So what else does this latest offering have to temp the user to dig into their wallet.

The Acer TravelMate P4  measures 32.5x22.8x1.3cm and weighs 1.41kilos. The left side has DC input, Ethernet, HDMI, two USB3 ports and USB ‘C’ which can be used to charge to save carrying a power brick on your travels. The front is clear. The right side has on/off button, two LEDs, micro SD, 3.5mm audio out and a further USB ‘C’. The back is also clear as the screen goes back to 180 degrees. The base has a long 28x.5cm raised rubber strip at the rear and two 5x.5cm small rubber strips at the front left and right edges so the ventilation is still good whatever you place it on.

Open the lid and the 30.5x17.3cm screen is in view it measures 35.5cm corner to corner. The 84 key keyboard has full sized alpha keys it is set with 2.5cm clear either side and 4cm clear behind which space is used for the speakers and they give a nice sound. There is 9cm clear in front and the 10.5x6.5cm trackpad is mounted 9cm from the left and 12.5cm from the right. Above the screen is a 1.8cm strip that has a web cam with a privacy slider and pin hole microphone, the square next to the webcam is a fingerprint reader.

The keyboard is backlit for 20 seconds after last key is pressed.

Next the specifications this is an Intel i5 Quad Core offering running at 2.4GHz and turbo speed up to 4.2GHz with a 14inch full HD screen, 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD. It comes with Windows 11 Pro pre-installed.

Bootup is a very speedy 10seconds and shutdown less than 3seconds.

In use the trackpad seemed particularly resected and smooth. The screen was lovely to use in all scenarios and gave no feeling of eyestrain even after long sessions of use.

The only other software – apart from Windows – were trials of Norton and Office 365.

As regular readers will know I always try to point out minus points as well as good ones, here the only thing that could be a problem is the size of the SSD but even that has close 190GB free before you start adding your own software and data, so maybe add an external hard drive for added future proofing.

The Acer TravelMate P4 is available from the link below for £750.49.
