New Year Assistance

An old friend from a previous title returns to help you in completing Nonogram game play.

Following on from the pre-festive release of Rainbow Mosaics - Christmas Helper title, AWIGOR has not wasted too much time in coming up with its next offering in a possible series.  Retaining much of the same title and many of its elements and features, Rainbow Mosaics - Helper New Year is the offering in question and the subject of this next review.

With the usual adjustments for audio volume levels, mouse pointer and choice of either Expert or Casual modes, you will be introduced to a situation that involves a road accident incident that causes Santa's letters being scattered all around.  Fortunately the robotic Helper, featured in the original title, comes to the rescue and gathered all the mail.  With your help, the robot will be able to make sure all the letters are appropriately answered by Santa.

Your help will consist of working your way along a winding trail of nonogram levels.  These levels will involve you in the creation of multi-coloured mosaics through the use of numeric clues arranged along the top and down the left side of a series of grids.  Along wit the use of the numeric clues you will also have the ability to switch between levels and the available colours featured in the current mosaic.  A colour wheel, positioned in a panel to the right of the grid, is provided for this purpose.

The panel will also provide feedback as to the number of errors made for the current mosaic.  Exceed four mistakes on a mosaic and the level will need to be replayed.  Also available from the panel will be any available power-ups that can be used to complete the nonogram process.  These power-ups will allow you to target a random or specific cell in the grid plus reveal the make-up of a designated area.

While tackling the steady stream of nonogram levels, you could encounter two different types of mini game puzzles.  Sometimes one of the layers making up a nonogram grid will come with a Question Mark decorating the head of a column or row.  Its presence indicates that you will be challenges to fill an area with several coloured supplied irregular blocks.  The less competitive player does have the option to skip this type of puzzle.

Adding a touch of variety to this puzzle game, the nonogram puzzle will be occasionally swapped for a Hidden Object scene.  You will be asked to find a text list of items stored within the scene.

Whether creating nonogram mosaics or completing the different types of mini game puzzles, a successful completion will bring the reward of coins.  Later in the game you will be able to use these coins to purchase street decoration to enhance the appearance of the winding route you need to take plus increase the strength of the game's power-ups as their effect on the grid.

Capable of providing plenty of game playing time, Rainbow Mosaics - Helper New Year can be downloaded from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $9.99 or from Big Fish Games priced at £7.33.  The game requires a 1.6 GHz processor with 1024MB of RAM and 70.9MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
