Jigsaws continue to be a past-time with a fairly high popularity rating. It does not matter whether you prefer playing with the box top version of the puzzle or the digital variety that finds a home on our computer screens, there is a steady stream of offerings from which to make your selection of the image to recreate from linked pieces. Judging by my recent television viewing sessions, some script writers find it difficult to resist the temptation to include a Jigsaw theme session in their situation comedy series. Recently I have viewed at least three such instances involving the appearance of a jigsaw in various programs.
Not unnaturally computer games' developers have not been slow in making use of the Jigsaw solving aspect within their offerings. One such title is the latest product to arrive from 8 Floor Games which is entitled "1001 Jigsaw Legends of Mystery 6".
As usual with titles in the "1001" series, the game features 500 images which are split equally between five books displaying the images from which you can make your selection of the image to be used as part of the Jigsaw. Options are available to adjust volume levels affecting the sound effects used to indicate when a piece is placed correctly if the visual clue is not enough assistance, You also have a choice of screen resolutions as you select from 1440 x 900, 1024 x 768 or 1920 x 1080.
As I trawled through the available images displayed in the five books, displaying the number of pieces for each image and whether the pieces featured a rotation option or not, I did encounter that one image was repeated more than once and there was more than a single occurrence when the displayed image was blacked out. When such a blacked out image was selected, its pieces transformed so that they did take on their required section to create a scene.
While the normal images are selected for use, you will have the option to adjust their individual settings. You can increase or decrease the number of pieces between 12 and 247, select a different cut shape for the linking sections and decide whether to apply the rotation feature or not.
When putting together the Jigsaw's pieces you will be provided with a number of tools. You can opt to store unwanted pieces that are not immediately required in a hidden pocket located in the top left corner of the work area. Work can be conducted initially on the edge pieces with the inner pieces being hidden until this stage is completed. A Ghost image can be used as a guide to help with positioning pieces. There is also a Hint function which can select a piece for placement and the ability to zoom in on a small area of the image. Completed Jigsaws bring the reward of a Congratulation screen.
This product can be downloaded from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $9.99. The game requires a 1.0 GHz processor with 512MB of RAM and 124MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
