HP R817 Digital Camera

Published in Cameras by paul_smart on 8 Sep 2005
This is small and this is powerful, on the face of it ideal for a pocket or purse. Not only is this a 5 mega pixel unit but the lens also supports 5x optical zoom.

Kodak Easy Share C360

This is the second of two reviews on small – quite similar – digital cameras from Kodak, read them both to see the subtle differences.

No matter how much storage capacity your digital camera has, you always need more space. A portable CD-writer could provide a solution.

Kodak Easy Share C340

Published in Cameras by paul_smart on 18 Aug 2005
Kodak have produced two cameras that have very similar specifications, originally I planned to review them both together but decided against that as there are more differences than may at first appear.

This is very small unit and it would easily fit in a pocket or purse. It looks smart with it’s brushed silver front, most importantly it takes decent images.

A Portable Photographic Studio

Published in Cameras by mfereday on 30 June 2005
Pop fans, scouts & guides plus military personnel use them. So maybe it is time budding photographers should consider using a tent a photographic studio for certain tasks.

Hold that pose! There’s a camera out there just for you and it could well be the latest Acer model.

Ricoh Caplio R1v

Sometimes you love something on sight, occasionally it’s the reverse, however what is unusual when you dislike something and then with use like it so much you wondered how you ever disliked it.

JVC GR-D290 Camcorder

Published in Cameras by paul_smart on 21 Apr 2005
Camcorders are not something I see a lot of, however for that very reason I can probably spot the differences easier than someone looking at them week in week out.

FujiFilm FinePix F440

Published in Cameras by paul_smart on 3 Apr 2005
This is a very small unit that will easily slip into a pocket or purse. However small does not mean it is not powerful.

Acer Digital Camera CS-553

Published in Cameras by paul_smart on 14 Mar 2005
Acer currently produce three cameras and over the last couple of weeks you have heard about the other two. This is the mid range offering and is by far the slimmest.

Five Mega-pixels on a Budget

Published in Cameras by mfereday on 6 Mar 2005
As camera prices fall, so available mega-pixels increase. Acer has achieved a nice balance with its CR-5130 model.

Six Mega-Pixels from Acer

Published in Cameras by mfereday on 26 Feb 2005
It’s black, compact, capable of 6.3 mega-pixels and manufactured by Acer.

JVC Everio

Published in Cameras by paul_smart on 13 Feb 2005
Is it a Camcorder, no. Is it a Digital Camera, no. It is a .WAV recording device, no. It is in fact all three. The Everio comes in two models the GZ-MC200 and the GZ-MC100, here I am looking at the latter, the former is likely to cost £100 more.

New from Acer

Published in Cameras by mfereday on 2 Feb 2005
Convergence is the name of the game that interests Acer as the company announces some new products

Epson L-500V Digital Camera

Published in Cameras by paul_smart on 31 Jan 2005
The quality of a digital camera is not the mega pixels it can produce although they obviously help, it is done to the quality of the lens (CCD) and the compression methods used.

Kodak DX7590

Not a name you instantly think of when talking about quality digital cameras. Obviously when thinking of film cameras Kodak is a big name, although they have made digitals for years, here at last they make a giant leap forward.

Canon PowerShot S70

Published in Cameras by paul_smart on 10 Sep 2004
3megapixel not enough, 5megapixel not enough, then how about 7.1megapixel? The latest PowerShot S70 has exactly that as well as other great features in a compact housing.
3megapixel, 3x optical zoom, 32MB SD card, if that does not get you interested then perhaps the sub £100 price point may, if not then you are probably not looking for a digital camera.
Small and neat, stylish chrome facia, powerful 5megapixel camera, all of these and more are true of the HP R707 could this be the digital camera we are all looking for?

Goodmans G-Shot 5030Z

Published in Cameras by paul_smart on 26 Jul 2004
3 or 4 megapixel not enough? Then this offering from Goodmans may well be what you are looking for, a compact 5 megapixel digital camera with a basic 32MB of storage.

FujiFilm FinePix 420

Published in Cameras by paul_smart on 26 Jul 2004
It’s small – it will easily fit in a pocket or purse. It’s stylish, at least as far as I’m concerned. It’s easy to use and it’s still a powerful digital camera that takes great images.
All optical zoom lenses I know of protrude from the front of the unit, not so with the Sony Cybershot DSC-T1, the zoom takes place within the unit actioning vertically.

Inovix DC430

Published in Cameras by paul_smart on 4 Jul 2004
A four megapixel digital camera for a little over £100, complete with a 32MB Compact Flash card, even with today’s fast moving price reduction hysteria this is something well worth investigating.

Two Great Digital Cameras

Published in Cameras by paul_smart on 17 May 2004
Two different companies, two different cameras, both producing excellent images, about the only thing they have in common is that they both use the XD card format. The knowledgeable reader will now know which two companies.

canon mv650i camcordeCanon Camcorder MV650i

Published in Cameras by paul_smart on 29 Jan 2004
I see a lot of digital cameras, I see a lot of web cams, but for some reason not a lot of camcorders. When I started testing the MV650i I had a very big shock, the provided recording mechanism was not tape.
A web cam is a web cam right? Well perhaps not always, in fact several have the ability to store images inside their own memory away from the PC, some can even store sound and by that you know they can also record video.
Just over a week ago I finished my review of a 5mega pixel camera, here I looking at a 640x480 unit, however for what it is it takes rather good images.

Pentax Optio S4

Published in Cameras by mfereday on 15 Dec 2003
What is small, silver in colour and has a 3D feature? This is not a trick question and I’ll even answer my own question. It is the Optio S4 camera from Pentax.
