Emporia SuperEasy Mobile

This can be a near standard Android phone or by clicking on Emporia during the initial setup one that offers more assistance and help without looking like a phone designed for the older user. While it does have an emergency button the back below the camera it does not look like one it just looks like a second camera so no one need know.

The Emporia SuperEasy Mobile measures 13.5x6.5x.7cm and weighs 147 grams. Going around the outside has the volume rocker and on/off button on the right side. The base has the microphone. The left side is clear. The top has USB ‘C’ port for charging and 3.5mm socket for personal listening. The back has camera centrally mounted 1cm down from the top with LED flash just below, anyone looking at it would think the area just below this is another camera it’s actually an emergency button but no one would know.

Unusually today the back is removable and a second back is supplied so you can cover the emergency button should you wish. You need to remove either of the backs to insert a Nano Sim and any micro SD card you use; it also means that the battery is user replaceable.

On initial setup you have the choice of using it as a near normal Android phone or an Emporia phone. Two main differences the Emporia have two actual buttons at the base of the screen green and red. The green answers calls and also accepts any choices; the red rejects a call, ends it, or goes back one screen. The second difference is that items are listed alphabetically and not shown as icons.

So once the unit is unlocked you have two choices Phone or Menu on the lower part of the screen halfway up Notifications which can be updates emails etc.

On first start up this list consists of 30 alphabetical items each on a single line as you install other items they are added to this list.

For those whose hearing is less than perfect it is HAC compatible with M4/T4 hearing aids.

For those whose sight is less than perfect there is a magnifier function. There is also a voice input facility.

An easy to use phone designed for those no longer working fulltime or even at all. A recent survey found that 10 million people in the UK do not have a Smartphone, I know several myself who have a mobile phone that is exactly that like the original Nokia offering and upgrading to something like this would give them help in an emergency as well as Internet access and things like WhatsApp. Or to put it another way it would welcome them to the 21st Century.

At the time of publication the Emporia SUPER Easy is available from Amazon for £155.54.
