D-Link Outdoor Camera

Most recent ‘outdoorcameras that have crossed my desk have been battery offerings that would require you to climb up to change the battery or recharge it. They of course require only fitting, this offering from D-Link is wired so it needs to go through either a wall window or door frame to get power and to deliver its signal to you.

It is 8.5x5.5x6.5cm the last figure the depth is increased by the bracket so could be as much as 12cm. The hard wired lead that emerges from the back of the bracket is 4.2 metres long ending in a round 1cm across fitment that carries both power and signal. There is a further plug/fitment on another 3 metre length of cable that ends in a power plug so however you link it you need power within three metres of entering your home.

Also in the box is a ten side fold out Quick Start Guide.

I am assuming that the main purpose of this is to ‘discourage’ any unwelcome intruder and for that it is well provided first by a very bright - 400 lumen – spotlight and an even more powerful siren at 100 decibels so your only problem should be with your neighbours if you have it set to low and the local wildlife such as foxes get into the limelight.

Let’s move onto the item not yet covered the camera it has a 150 degree field of vision  and with the spotlight delivers full colour night vision at 30fps (better than your standard TV signal) and this is all in HD 1920x1080.

If required you can even have a conversation – two way audio – so during the time when the double glazing salesmen are around you can politely decline from your armchair rather than having to open the door.

Being a proper outdoor camera it is water resistant to the IP 65 standard.

You get free cloud recordings but you also have a Micro SD card slot for local storage if you want it.

Most recent camera offerings have an App and this is no exception but you have access to their web portal so those working on a PC can have a Window open on the PC screen to see exactly what the camera is seeing and allow you time to get to the front door before a courier can say ‘I called’ and went away while you were coming down the stairs. For those that use them it can work the Amazon and Google assistants.

The ability for the camera to hear noises means it can notify you of glass breaking even if it’s out of the cameras field of vision. For this it has its own AI formula built it to determine if this affects your home or is just a noisy motorcycle going past.

This is a very nice and efficient camera and more so unless the criminals are very determined it should let them go for an easier target.

At the time of publication the D-Link Full HD Outdoor Wi-Fi Spotlight Camera DCS-8627LH is available from Amazon for £156.99 including free delivery.
