Christmas Yarn 4 is a Match 3 game from Kasual Kode.  Available in Collector's Edition format, with a choice of English, French or German languages, this game is set in the town of Glimmerdale which has for the past 50 years benefitted from the glow of a magical Christmas Star.  However at the start of Christmas Yarn, the Christmas Star has disappeared.  As a result you are charged with the task of finding this lost star.  This task can be carried out by completing 100 Match 3 levels mixed in with a variety of mini game puzzles.

Played within an environment delivered with Fast or High quality graphics and with a Casual or Expert Challenge plus a choice of Relaxed, Move or Timed restriction, this game is of the popular Match 3 type of game play.  The titles main Match 3 action is based around a centrally placed grid filled with various tiles.  Arranged to the right of the grid will be available power-ups that can be used to suggest the next area to tackle, remove a single tile or shuffle the grid's content.  Running across the top of the grid is a HUD showing the number and type of tiles to remove, game settings and the current level number.

Making use of the standard methods of tile removal, you can create groups of tiles by swapping two adjacent tile.  The group then disappears thus causing disruption which can have a cascading effect with further removals.  Rather than providing a purely decorative effect, some tiles have been aligned with special functions such as keys and locks.  These types of tiles can be collected to open blocked areas of the grid this giving you access to tiles that might include lava tiles, fire source, infinite exploder or a weight to cause an attack from one direction.  Some areas can also be opened by the pressing of a button once a path  had been created to it.

Linking together the various grids making up this title will be a series of cut-scenes.  These interludes are depicted in story book format populated by static characters.  Each scene will feature dialogue which will be displayed in text format rather than being delivered in spoken format.

At intervals the Match 3 grid will be replaced by a mini game puzzle.  You could be asked to complete a 25 piece jigsaw, link a source to a destination outlet using an assortment of pipes or matching pairs of face down cards.  Success in tackling Match 3 grids or mini game puzzles will bring a reward of coins.  These coins can be used to purchase decorations to enhance a living room element.  Access to the game's bonus items will be granted once the first 20 levels of the main game have been completed rather than forcing you to complete all levels.
