See us on Twitter!

Twitter

We've just launched a GadgetSpeak Twitter feed. It's a bit of an experiment, but if it's good enough for Stephen Fry and our friends at Bletchley Park then we feel we really ought to give it a go.

Now if all you Twitterers could wander over to twitter and start 'following us' then we'll see if we can give Stephen a run for his money Smile

Come and follow us on Twitter here!

Want to win a Nintendo Wii?

Nintendo Wii

The weathermen are promising us a wonderful summer - just like in the old days. If they are right then you won't need this months GadgetSpeak prize, because you'll be outdoors enjoying all that fresh air and sun.

But...

Just in case (perish the thought) they've got it wrong - this month we have a shiny new Nintendo Wii that will be making it's way to one very lucky GadgetSpeak winner.

Lots of people seemed to like our competition question a couple of months back so we've taken the same path again this month - just to keep you all on your toes.

So - to be entered into the competition this month you'll have to:

  • Be a member and login (or join for free and login)
  • Go to our special competition page
  • Answer the particularly cunning qualifying question

Please do be careful - last time 5 people answered the question wrong - and we really don't want that!

And of course please remember to check the terms and conditions to make sure you qualify (at the moment you have to be in the UK - sorry to all those readers elsewhere!)

  • 30th April: Nintendo DSi - that latest evolution of this popular console!

What do you have to do to enter?

If you're already a member all you have to do is make sure your profile is complete and remember to login each week to enter that weeks prize draw. Remember we are doing these draws at the end of each Thursday in the month - so make sure you do login before the deadline!

It's December - it's Santa's Sack

Santa and his sack

Thanks to everyone for joining in the fun with Christmas Cracker - it was a huge success for us and helped increase the number of members to the site significantly. Thanks of course to Photobox for sponsoring the crackers!

It is however now December, and for those of you that have been around GadgetSpeak for more than a year you'll know that means Santa's Sack time! Santa's Sack is our special advent competition to get you ready for the festive season. This year we've packed the sack with a wide variety of gadgety products with something to appeal to everyone.

With Day one drawing to a close all I can say is WOW - the number of visitors in this single day has beat the highest day we had in the entire Santa's Sack period in 2007 - so thanks to all of you that joined in the fun.

Want to know what all the fuss is about? Well we often run free competitions for members here at GadgetSpeak partly to encourage new visitors to join and also as a thank you to existing members. December is however the competition!

We have a sack of wonderful prizes that Santa himself would envy. For each of the first 20 days of December one prize will be drawn from the sack and awarded to one lucky GadgetSpeak member. There are hundreds of pounds worth of prizes to be won - and of course membership and entry to the competition is free!

Want to know more? Full details of santa's sack and all the prizes here!

More than a fresh face for GadgetSpeak!

GadgetSpeak 2008 site design

Our last newsletter was the day before our new site look and feel was about to go live, and we had all of our fingers crossed for a smooth transition. Luckily everything went very well and I hope you'll agree the updated appearance on GadgetSpeak looks a lot better.

The changes were more than superficial though. As part of the upgrade we incorporated a number of changes requested by large number of people that completed our survey a few months back. Here's a list of the recent changes!

  • Updated appearance (you probably spotted that one!)
  • Gadget offers now included in weekly GadgetSpeak email
  • Improved accessibility
  • New - "Gadget News" section on the front page where talk about new gadgets and industry news we think you'll find relevant. We'll include our own opinions of course, and invite you all to leave comments to cover your own!
  • Improved editor for those of you that want to write up your own reviews (come on - share your ideas with the rest of us!)
  • Profile improvements so you can more easily upload a picture of yourself to your profile.
  • An 'email a friend' link on each article so you can tell others about products you like (or if it pressie time, to drop a great big hint!)

SO......

What do you think? Please We've plenty of other ideas - just not enough time! Let us know what else you'd like to see on GadgetSpeak and we'll try and get your ideas into the system!

Thanks as always for your support!

October Prizedraw : Fujitsu ScanSnap S300 scanner

Fujitsu ScanSnap S300

It's October already - where has the the year gone?

Thanks to everyone that entered last months prizedraw - and for visiting the site. It's so good to see so many of you returning again and again.

This month we're really lucky to have Fujitsu sponsor the competition. They will be providing the lucky winner with one of their excellent ScanSnap S300 scanners. You can read Michael Fereday's thoughts on this product in his review.

In summary this is a very space efficient scanner with a built in automatic document feed (ADF) - great for scanning in a set of pages. Apart from being the world’s smallest duplex ADF scanner (i.e. it can scan double sided pages automatically) it's also very light and portable. Unlike flat-bed scanners this one isn't going to take up most of your limited desk space.

Remember our competition is free - all qualifying GadgetSpeak members are automatically entered into each months competition as soon as they log-in that month.

New members are of course also more than welcome (did I mention membership is free?). Simply complete our short joining form, activate your account and add some basic data to your profile and you'll be entered (check the full terms and conditions on the joining page - but in short open to UK residents 18 years old and over).

Santa's Sack - please check your email address!

Hope everyone is enjoying themselves - and congratulations to the winners so far.

I've sent out todays daily update a little while age and I've been checking email errors. It looks like a small number of you have invalid email addresses on your account. You obviously still exist and want to be part of Santa's Sack because you've come in and checked the box to receive daily updates.

Some of the accounts with errors are people that have been members for a long time - so their email address has probably just changed. Please, especially if you've been a member for a while, check that we have the correct email address. To do this - log in to GadgetSpeak and click the 'your account' link in the top left of the page.

There are a couple of people that only joined at the end of November who also seem to have email addresses that don't exist - or at least your servers are complaining that you don't exist! I can only assume they used a tempory email address to join then deleted their email account once activated - assuming we wouldn't notice! tut-tut. We do look at what's happening on the site now and then!

Good luck every body - only a few days left and I can relax. I'm going to need a rest at the end of Santa's Sack!

By the way - we've added a little page so you can invite your friends and family to join in the last few days of Santa's Sack. Just click here to invite them!

An excellent prize for June!

Photobox Photobook
Photobox Photobook

We have a great prize, worth over £200 this month thanks to Photobox.

First of all a reminder - to enter you have to be a member (free - just complete this form). If you are a member you have to login at least once during the month. Not logged in? Just click here! Remember to check the terms and conditions on the registration and log-in pages!

Photobox provide on-line photographic services suitable for anyone with a collection of digital photos. Digital cameras are great for capturing that special moment be it wedding, birthday party or the latest addition to the family. Ease of use in taking those pictures is however countered with a tendency to leave them on the computer - getting prints is a pain. You can print them yourself (but a decent printer and ink is expensive) or burn them to CD and walk them into town.

Photobox provides an opportunity to match ease of taking pictures with ease of creating prints - and a whole lot more. Upload your images to them and they will print them in a variety of formats and on a variety of materials from standard photo paper to high quality canvas and even onto cushion covers!

Our GadgetSpeak June winner will have the opportunity experiment with their photos with the following excellent prize :

Photobox Canvas Print
Canvas Print

We've all got some special photos stashed away on our computers these days and this is a great opportunity to display the very best. The canvas is great for that really exceptional or memorable photo - maybe a wedding, Christening or other special occasion. The photo books are great to have on the coffee table or to share with friends. They also make excellent gifts for grand parents and other family members!

We'll have our own full review of the service published shortly - but in the meantime take a look on the PhotoBox web-site.

UPDATE : You can now see what our intrepid reviewer made of the Photobox service herself - read the Photobox review here.

May winners - members prize draw

OWL electricity power meter/monitor

After a busy month it's taken me a little time to update the winners page with the May results - but I've got there now. May saw three winners in our power saving month. Members Zebby168 and tigerwuds both won OWL power meters

You only have a few days left to enter the June competition - an excellent chance to get your digital photos printed out for all to see with our Photobox prize. Congratulations to winners from last month - and best of luck to those that have entered our June competition!
