The Philips Brilliance P-line model 241P6EPJEB is a 24 inch LED professional monitor which has the facilities and ergonomics to meet the needs of those who sits in front of their computers all day long.

This 16:9 aspect ratio monitor has a native resolution of 1920 x 1080. As well as providing a good quality image, it employs the new SoftBlue LED technology which we are assured is less harmful to the eyes. This is because studies have shown that just as UV can cause eye damage, blue light rays from LED displays can result in eye damage and affect vision over time. This technology reduces the harmful blue light waves without affecting the colour or image of the display.

The monitor has a narrow matt black bezel so that, overall, the unit is only 22.5 inch wide and so does not take up unnecessary space on one's desk. Its stand provides a wide range movements to meet user needs. At its lowest point the lowest edge of the screen is roughly 3inch from the desktop and its spring-counterbalance allows a 5inch height adjustment and so can be adjusted to meet all needs – including those who wear spectacles. It can be tilted through the range -5 to +20 degrees as well as being swivelled laterally almost through180 degrees in either direction and, where the application demands, the monitor itself can be rotated from landscape to portrait view. It also complies with the VESA mounting interface.

The picture quality is very satisfactory and there is a wide choice of inputs: VGA, DVI-D, DisplayPort and MHL-HDMI. The MHL function (Mobile high-definition Link) is a mobile audio/video interface for directly connecting mobile phones and other portable device to high-definition displays. (A growing number of phones and tablets are now MHL-certified even though a brand-specific MHL cable or adapter is sometimes required.) As well as automatic input selection, the push-buttons for input selection and controlling the on-screen display are on the lower right hand bezel.

One of the useful features accessed from the OSD, but only found by reference to the full manual, is SmartImage. This has six modes: Office, Photo, Movie, Game, Economy and Off when none of the listed optimisation set-ups is engaged. I found the Photo and Movie settings were beneficial while, for normal use in the office, I often found that the Economy setting was perfectly adequate. Also, in the interest of economy, there are the PowerSensor and the LightSensor. The former senses when the user has moved away from the screen and so automatically reduces power consumption while the latter senses ambient light and adjust the picture brightness accordingly.

Hidden behind the left hand side of the screen, but still readily accessible, is the built-in 4-port USB 3.0 hub. One of the output ports is "fast charging". Other connections on the underside of the monitor are headphone out and audio in. The two 2W speakers are built in to the lower edge of the unit.

Overall, the 241P6EPJEB is a 1920 x 1080 professional grade monitor that offers good image quality, convenient ergonomics and a wide range of features. At a price of around £200 on Amazon, despite being noticeably dearer than many monitors of this size, it will be considered that the added benefits make it a worthwhile buy by many a discerning user.
