Emporia Smart.3

Image of author
This is the last of the recent batch of new SmartPhones from Emporia. This brand of phones looks like a normal SmartPhone but gives the user extra help be it more volume for those of us with hearing loss or brighter and more distinct displays for those with sight problems; however they can also be used as a standard Android SmartPhone.

It is 15x7.4x.7cm and weighs 177grams. The viewable screen is 12.3x6.5cm with the normal three control buttons below the screen in the surround, the centre home button is a slightly raised solid button.

Going around the outside has the volume rocker buttons with the on/off button below these. The base has USB ‘C’ for charging as well as the contacts for the supplied charging dock. The left side is clear and the top has 3.5mm socket for earbuds. The back has a line of three items camera, LED flash and help buttons down the centre starting 1cm from the top. Like all Emporia phones it has two covers supplied for those who do not want the help button visible the other cover just has a button saying 13MP camera where the help button would be. For me anyway the help button could easily be a finger print reader so nothing anyone could pick up on.

Like the recently reviewed Smart3.mini this comes with both a small Instruction Manual and a larger Handbook that covers far more ideal for anyone who is not that sure why, how or if which takes the user far further than the basics or making a call, receiving and sending texts and into the world of Apps. This 20x14cm book is 136 pages long.

Like the previous review unit the Smart3.mini can be used as a standard SmartPhone as it has a standard Android 9 skin or with the Emporia overlay that handles things a little differently.

So this is a standard SmartPhone but should you need more help because of sight or hearing problems then this can offer it and best or all no one needs to know as externally it looks like any other recent SmartPhone.

This has 13MP rear camera and an 8MP front (selfie) camera. The screen is the largest in the Emporia range at 5.5 inches. These are things found on any SmartPhone but once you have pressed the Emporia button on the front screen it becomes a phone for anyone with hearing or sight problems or dare I say both should that be your problem and while everything is still there the phone is setup to give more assistance.

While things like charging your phone is easier as this is USB ‘C’ and plugging in can be either way it is even easier to place in the supplied dock.

This is a SmartPhone for those who difficulties using a SmartPhone but only you need to know you have problems.

The Emporia Smart.3 is available from Amazon for £200 and the price includes delivery.
