AOC Headphones GH200

As far as I know this is a new venture for AOC who normally only produce flat panels although most of these have inbuilt speakers. So what might this reasonably priced set of headphones have to offer to both home and office users?

They are the over ear variety and they also have a microphone arm attached to the left earbud and it has enough adjustment for those who like to position it under the chin or on front of your mouth.

Fully expanded they are 21cm from the base of the earpiece to the inside of the well-padded headband. There is up to 4cm of expansion on each side so even a child might be able to use them but they have full size earpieces which are round at 9.5cm across and very well padded so on a child they may look like overkill.

These are corded with a nice thick 175cm long lead to a gold plated 3.5mm socket. Just over 50cm from the point the hard wired lead exits from the base of the left earpiece is a 5.5x2x1cm rotary control unit on the side that can adjust the volume and a separate control on the face to mute the microphone.

As the overall size is large they are ideal for home or office use but less useful if traveling because of the size and shape and the thicker lead is more rigid than most thinner cables.

Sound quality is excellent and there is plenty of volume and people who I have spoken to on Zoom meetings often need to lower their volume levels as the clarity of the microphone gives crystal clear sound.

While each earpiece has some up and down movement so they fit well over your ears there is no side to side movement.

This is described as a Gaming Headset and all sounds I heard were very clear and distinct so a footstep could be easily heard before it got close. For those who use two sound outputs there is an adapter from the single 3.5mm connector to dual 3.5mm connections, this lead is of the same quality as the main lead and is 35cm long.

The microphone can be disconnected if not required but as it tucks away easily why bother just mute it.

I always thoroughly test all headphones with the complete range of musical Genres even those I dislike like opera and the quality of all was excellent. I also test spoken voice input from the highest to lowest including samples that I often struggle with on the phone with strong accents.

The quality and clarity of sound is down to the excellent 50mm driver.

At the time of publication the AOC GH200 Gaming Headset is available from Amazon for £40.95 including free delivery.
