Griffin Cases for Samsung S8 and S8+

While cases for phones are an important extra – they should in my opinion be supplied with the phone – I suspect the reason they are not is the same as that I was given many years ago for not supplying a USB lead with a printer the reseller wants the opportunity for an extra sale.

Here I am looking cases for the new Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ all marketed under the Survivor brand and all designed to meet or exceed the military standard for dropping onto concrete.

Firstly three cases for the Samsung Galaxy S8 two come in yellow boxes and one in a blue box now the colour difference is not cosmetic; yellow boxes – whatever the type of case – will withstand a drop from 4 feet or 1.2 metres, while blue will withstand a drop from 7 feet or 2.1 metres.

Survivor Clear in turquoise blue or Survivor Clear in dark blue both are identical in size and shape and meet or exceed the 4 foot drop test (yellow box) and under the ‘Proven Protection’ banner are Impact and Ultra Slim.

They both have what Griffin call ‘6H’ scratch resistant backs and perhaps most importantly the sides are a custom fit to the dual edge display of the S8, they also have an impact dispersion system for when the phone falls on an edge.

Next the blue box for the S8 which can survive a drop from head height for a tall person 7 feet although unless you are holding it above your head to search for a signal I am not sure why it would drop from that height.

Still a thin case which has a multi layered shell with no slip grip and of course the sides are custom made to suit the edge to edge display of the S8.

Now onto the S8+ firstly the 4 foot drop brand in the yellow boxes.

Again two different colours of case first the clear one with see through scratch resistant back ‘6H’ hardness rated and the sides have a custom fit which for the edge to edge display of this phone is very important.

Next an identical case but with a semi-transparent gold tinge, still with 4 foot drop guarantee which for most would cover you from waist high or just above the distance most phones fall from.

Lastly two blue box offerings the first in grey these are firmer to the touch and even the blue boxes they come in are moulded to the shape of the case. You still get maximum protection with the multi layered shell and no slip grip.

Finally for this roundup the black version case in the blue box which offers the same 7 foot drop protection for your expensive new Samsung S8 phone.

While sites in this country have earlier versions for Samsung phones they currently do have cases for S8 or S8+ so I give links to the Griffin US site which not only ships to the UK but put their prices in pounds.

So Survivor Clear (yellow box) available in four colours at £19 for Galaxy S8+ and for the S8.

Survivor Strong (blue box) is available in two colours at £29 for Galaxy S8 and for the S8+

Other cases for other phones are available but the one above are what I have seen myself.
