Vodafone Smart Ultra 7

This is the latest SmartPhone offering from Vodafone, as its their own brand you pay a little less but still get all the functionality that a recent Android SmartPhone has to offer, it looks Smart but you save just a little on the cost of it against a similar device from some manufacturers.

The Vodafone Smart Ultra 7 measures 15x6.9x.7cm and it weighs 162grams. The viewable screen is 12x6.8cm which gives the notional diagonal imperial screen measurement of 5.5inches.

For those - like me – who turn their phones off the 30 second boot time is not that impressive but the shutdown is more normal at 3 seconds.

Going around the outside has the 3.5mm socket for headphones or earbuds on the top, the right side has the volume up/down rocker and the on/off button both these are slightly raised and have a serrated pattern on them, the base has the micro USB port for charging and the speaker, finally for the sides the left side is clear.

The back has a slightly raised camera 1cm down from the top in the centre with the LED flash beside it.

The front is a not that shiny black with the sides being a matt chrome colour and the back a dark grey with a tiny cross pattern.

Finger nails should be safe as there is a small notch on the base the opposite side to the Micro USB port to start the back removal process, your SIM and any Micro SD card slot in under there, the battery however is not user removable.

A SmartPhone not of this quality not long ago would cost several hundred pounds, the cheapest lesser quality entry level SmartPhones cost under one hundred pounds so the one hundred to two hundred pound arena is the new mid-priced arena, and this offering from Vodafone is in this area.

The battery is 2950mAh surely enough for even the power users day.

The rear camera is 13MP while the front facing camera is a substantial 5MP.

It seems the days of a ‘Quad Core 1.3GHz offering’ are done as this not only offers octa-core (eight) but 2GHz processor as well, yes its rapid.

The Android version is Marshmallow 6.01 and Vodafone have left it in the ‘vanilla’ state.

I was more than happy with it on my Wi-Fi and the Bluetooth performance was also good, this phone has NFC so that means as Android Pay becomes more available this phone is ready for it.

A lot of what I have mentioned above are high end features now available in a mid-range phone so the current price from the link below is £135 and remember this also has Vodafone’s 30 day promise of if you are not happy with their coverage bring it back.

As always with my tests I use this phone for everything while out and about and while this had its two weeks of use I have no thoughts of ‘x was better’ or ‘why is this not y’ it just did everything and as normal with Vodafone no dropped phone calls even when going through the notorious black spot between Clapham Junction and Earlsfield.

The Vodafone Smart Ultra 7 is available of PAYG for £135 from the link below.
