The Acer Chromebook 315 measures 37x25x1.5cm the last figure is a maximum around 5cm from the back, it weighs 1791 grams.
Going around the outside has power LED, USB ‘C’, USB3, micro SD and headset on the left. On the right are USB3, USB ‘C’ and Kensington lock connector. Both the front and back have no connections. The underside has for 3x.7cm rubber feet that raise it just enough to stop it scratching whatever you place the Chromebook on. Open the lid and it powers up in around twenty seconds it automatically opens whatever you were last working on.
There are six rows of keys on the keyboard with two rather good speakers. The speakers are 12x3cm either side of the keyboard. The keyboard has a total of 73 keys the one key that Windows users might miss for a while is Delete but backspace does the job. The screen goes back to a bit beyond 180 degrees.
Chromebooks have always had lower case keyboards which may seem initially strange but in effect that’s what any keyboard gives you without the shift key. There are no function keys but everything else works.
You will need a Google/Gmail account as this keeps everything secure and keeps the machine updated automatically. You can still collect and send emails from other accounts.
There is 4cm free behind the keyboard, 5cm on either side and a massive 10cm free in front of the keyboard where the 10.5x7.5cm trackpad is centrally mounted.
The screen is 34x19.5cm which gives the notional diagonal imperial measurement of 15.6inches.
Shutting the lid does not turn the unit off and unless you change a setting it will open up where you left it without having to enter your password. The off button on the keyboard will shut it down.
There are Apps in the Google store but not the same wide range found in the Android store these can be accessed from the bottom left corner of the base of the screen, the centre of this area has Chrome, Gmail, YouTube, Messages and Documents. The right bottom edge has Clock, Battery State, Messages, Network Strength and your countries Keyboard shown.
The unit was silver grey all round with the exception of the keyboard keys which are black with white letters.
It was a nice clear screen but this is not a touch unit. It has 4GB of RAM and a 1.8GHz processor. The hard drive is 64GB and a battery to last a day of use at close to ten hours. The screen displays 1920x1080 which is HD. Originally Chromebooks has virtually no storage but they are useable for working on documents etc when there is no Wi-Fi available.
