Prestigio Speaker Alarm Clock for iPod PIS4

Image of author
A little different to the normal iPod dock in that the clock – which can be battery operated – is in the dock and does not rely on the iPod in fact the dock can support Auxiliary input (MP3 player) and it has inbuilt FM radio.

It is 13cm deep 10cm across and 9cm tall to the iPod dock then allow for the height of your iPod (any 30 pin connector).

There are the first two pages of the manual in English however some work needs to done with it as I spent far to long trying to set the clock as the instructions make no mention that this is only possible with the unit in Standby. Finally I read on and as it then said you need the unit switched to standby to set the alarm the penny dropped and it was as described.

While the unit comes with one of the small type of remote controls – that are all to easy to misplace – it is not only essential but some things – like setting the clock and alarm – can only be done on the main unit itself.

The rear of the unit has DC input, 1.5metre wire FM radio aerial and 3.5mm socket for Auxiliary input. The sides have the twin speakers. The base has input for batteries (6x‘AA’) that will keep the time even if power is lost. The top has iPod or iPhone dock with a volume knob front left and light (for the clock display) front right.

This leaves only the face; this is a mirror finish with an 8cm circular dial set into the centre of it. The controls are touch and around the outside of it. The clock display is in the centre with 1.5cm white numerals on a blue background. The top of this area shows the day of the week and below the time several icons such as alarm set, iPod or FM etc.

By default the alarm is a loud beep space beep tone that should wake even the deepest of sleepers, however finding the top part of the dial to turn it off might prove to be somewhat of a contest as the area to find is not large.

The on/off switch is at 12oclock with mem/set at 10oclock. The back button is at 8oclock, the strangely named Fun button at 7oclock with the pause/next button at 5oclock the forward button at 4oclock and finally the sleep/alarm button at 2oclock.

The strangely named Fun button is the one that allows you to change from iPod to FM radio to Auxiliary modes.

There is a sleep mode but this can only be set when listening and your options are 5, 10, 15, 30, 60 and 90 minutes.

The FM radio gives good reception and the last station listened is remembered as long as power is not removed.

Sound quality with iPod, Auxiliary or FM Radio is excellent no mention is made as to the size or power output of the twin speakers but they do give a good sound, however there is no treble or bass adjustment available.

While I think having a battery backup is great idea surely 6x‘AA’ batteries is overkill a trickle could be kept by a single battery and better still why not make it a rechargeable one so you never need to worry about it dying.

A company new to the UK so I have no idea if this is version one of this product if it is the shortcomings are perhaps forgivable.

It should be available for less than £50, finding UK links is hard, so the link below in Poland is the only one I can currently find at £36.80, but as it says remember it is intended for sale in Poland so plug etc will differ.
