During her career as a Viking warrior of some renown, Helga has fought a number of battles against a variety of opponents. These battles have taken place on land, sea and the domain of Valhalla following Helga’s death in conflict. Fortunately, due to her undoubted bravery and honour, Helga was granted special status and was permitted to return to the land of the living to continue her quest to aid people.
The latest chapter in the saga of Helga comes with the release of Helga VI Beyond Ragnarok. This begins as Helga rest peaceful in a fishing village when everything changes as storm clouds move in and the sky becomes threatening. Helga is summoned to return to Valhalla as the Gods have an important mission for her to fulfil. The world was under threat as the Gods feared Ragnarok was about to occur sooner than it should. It was up to Helga to find the three sacred artefacts known as the Thread of Urd, Heart of Mjoinir and the Mask of Loki before Surtra would appear to wreak his vengeance of the world.
To complete this task, you need to aid Helga by completing over 70 levels of Match 3 game play action. This action is spread out over five chapters that each contain four upgrades that need to be instigated by stars earned for completing levels. Displayed against various scenic backgrounds, a centrally positioned grid will be populated with tiles and various blockages. The grid will be sandwiched between available power-ups on the left and the set challenge for items needing removal on the right.
The standard method of removing tiles will be carried by swapping two adjacent tiles to create a group of three or more similar items. The group of tiles then disappears and its space is then filled by other tiles falling downwards and sometimes causing a cascading effect. You will also have access to available power-ups that can be used to clear a small number of tiles. While the supply of power-ups is not renewable, you can make a bomb by creating a group of more than four tiles.
While the majority of tiles and blockages can be removed by these methods mentioned, there is one tile that resists such attacks. This is a Crystal tile which has a shimmering appearance. In order to remove this tile, you will need to create a pathway beneath it so that it descends to the base of the grid where it can be collected. If a Crystal appears in the grid then it will also be included in the challenge for that level.
At the completion of each level you will receive a reward of some stars that can be built up to pay for the instigation of an upgrade to the chapter. Once this automatic task has been completed then a cut-scene will take place. This scenes features static characters delivering printed dialogue against an impresses backdrop as the story line moves along a pace as you hear more about the Norse Gods and their family history. Due to the lack of any animation and the use of printed dialogue, I felt these scenes were a little disappointing.
The game’s various levels of Match 3 game play do tend to vary sometimes with regards to their difficulty with certain levels being particularly hard. You do need to be aware that a few of the grids found in this title do make use of a couple of tiles that have been granted special powers. They have the ability to multiple and spread themselves over a growing area of the grid. It is best to tackle these tiles first.
