Are video games remembered for their critical acclaim or their player acceptance?

Although a critical opinion could help make or break a production, such as a play, film or game, there is often a difference between what the critics thinks and what the paying public believes is value for money.  Uswitch has looked into this aspect to see how wide, and in what direction, this difference might be with regards to video games available in 2022.

Scoring better with players than the critics, the top five titles are listed below.

2022’s most underrated video games:
RankGameAverage critic scoreAverage audience scoreDifference
1 Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires 59.67 89.67 -30.00
2 Touken Ranbu Warriors 67.00 92.00 -25.00
3 MADiSON 72.50 92.50 -20.00
4 POSTAL 4: No Regerts 30.00 47.00 -17.00
5 THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD: Remake 57.00 73.00 -16.00

Leading the way is Dynasty Warriors 9 Empires which is a strategy-focused expansion of the original Dynasty Warriors 9 game and was criticised for its repetitive missions, lack of multiplayer and dull open world, with an average critic score of 59.67 in comparison to an average audience score of 89.67.

Initially proving successful with high scores from critics, the following five titles failed to impress many players with a product that had made a big dent in their hard earned savings.

2022’s most overrated video games:
RankGameAverage critic scoreAverage audience scoreDifference
1 Gran Turismo 7 87.00 20.00 67.00
2 Diablo Immortal 59.00 3.00 56.00
3 Grand Theft Auto V 80.00 30.00 50.00
4 F1 22 81.00 31.33 49.67
5 Monster Energy Supercross - The Official Videogame 5 74.50 27.00 47.50

Top of the list Gran Turismo 7, liked by critics for its graphics and game play, failed to appeal to players who disliked its microtransactions and the excessive need to perform repetitive tasks in order to progress.  Please entertain but do not bore the player.
