Sport Earbuds from Sennheiser OCX 686G

Until recently I was not even aware that Sennheiser did earbuds then I reviewed the Flex 5000 that came with a set. Here I have to thank Vodafone for allowing me to extend my review period with their Samsung Galaxy 8 phone as these earbuds were designed for the Galaxy range of phones and Tablets.

Lime green seems to be the in colour for ‘sports’ earbuds. These are very bright and of course they do show up in reduced lighting areas.

The buds themselves come in three sizes which fit onto the overall fitment that flexes over the ear. The silicon buds are mid grey as is the control unit which is 28cm down the cable and below this once the two cables become one is the shirt or top grip to stop the spare cable moving around. 92cm further on (making the total cable length 1.2metres) is the 90 degree gold plated plug to fit into your phone or Tablet.

The total weight of the whole cable is 21 grams with 6 grams being the weight of the two earpieces.

In the packaging that needs to be virtually destroyed to get the earbuds out are the two other sizes of earbuds and two multi language guides for ‘Quick Guide’ and ‘Safely Guide’ both of these are in 16 languages and have adequate diagrams even if you do not speak any of the languages covered. Finally in the box is a rather nice tough fabric snap shut top to hold you buds when not in use.

Now to cover the more thorny point of me and fitness and even the idea of me running more than a few yards for a bus or train is unlikely but I did do plenty of movement with my body and I can say that the buds stayed firmly in place.

I used these for around three weeks while being out more than normal doing the rounds of various ‘Xmas In July’ events. I also used the buds with my trusty MP3 player where I store all Genres of Music and speech as well as a couple of notebooks that are also getting reviewed at the moment.

Returning to my MP3 player this has all Genres of music including things like pop and opera that are definitely not my own taste. I also test speech as certain higher registers as spoken by some ladies are very hard to follow as although the voice is high they are also quietly spoken. I can give these buds a tick for all audio styles.

Although the illustrations show the cables clearly travelling from the ears and across the chest my own preference was around the back of the neck and then to the neck shoulder area where the grip held the three position controller in place.

The stated frequency response is 18-20000 Hz while the microphone in the controller box is 100-10000Hz. The sound pressure level is 120 dB. The total harmonic distortion is stated to be <0.5%

The OCX 686G Sport earbuds from Sennheiser designed for Samsung Galaxy is available from Amazon for £79.99 with free delivery. They also do Android and iOS models.
