Sennheiser Headphones HD569

This is a pair of over ear noise reduction headphones. They come from a company who are stocked by high end and mass market stores, the former as entry level items and the latter as their top of the range quality headphone offerings.

With 5.5cm travel in each arm even those with the largest heads can be accommodated. My only query is for a child with a small head as not only will the closed arrangement be large on them so also will the full size over ear earpads.

I think my head is about average and while tight I can wear them with no extension of the side pads. Also for those with lack of on head hair is the large amount of padding across the headband.

With the headphones open to vertical there is 18cm from the bottom of the earpieces to the base of the headband and 20.5cm to the top of the headband, both these figures without any of the 5cm side extension enacted. There is 2.5cm from the outside of the padding on each earpiece to the back of the inside where the speakers are.

There is not a lot of side to side movement in the earpads so definitely no 90 degree movement as you see with some.

This unit is equally at home with ¼ inch cable as it is with 3.5mm cable; both are supplied and are 1.2 metres long; the end that plugs into the base of the left earpad is 2.5mm.

The velvet type padding on the earpieces and the headband do not make you sweat and are therefore comfortable to wear for long periods.

Before I go onto sound quality lets deal with noise reduction, while you could wear these outdoors I suspect they will be worn in the home or studio. External noise is definitely reduced in so much as the phone or doorbell may not be heard. However a car horn should be heard unless your music is set to ‘annoying others’ level.

Sound quality was excellent and as well as using my MP3 of a full range of music and voice I also played several live CD’s on my audio system using my own quality ‘handcrafted’ speakers and then played the same CD’s through these headphones and there were sounds I heard that were not detectable with the speakers set at normal levels.

The full range of sound with good base allow you to hear what the musicians laid down in the studio or as with favourite live performances where those little imperfections make the results ‘perfect’ for me. Yes I do prefer small groups but even with orchestras the individual can be heard even when not in the solo setting.

While the price for some maybe beyond their budget for others who use headphones professionally may consider these too cheap. Unusually Amazon does not apply any discount for these headphones which in itself must point out their quality.

The Sennheiser HD569 are available from Amazon for £149.99 with free delivery.
