Apple iPhone13

Apple seem to offer new phones each year so here is one of the recently launched iPhone 13 range. I have been using it out and about over the last few weeks with especial attention paid to its photographic abilities. So what does it offer the user apart from a name to justify its high end price?

Apple iPhone 13

The iPhone 13 measures 14.5x7x.8cm the exception is the top left corner where the two cameras and LED flash increase the depth to 1cm. It weighs 174 grams and feels very solid in your hand, mine was a mid-blue colour. The screen is13.6x6.4cm which gives the notional diagonal imperial measurement of just less than 6 inches - just over 6 inches is claimed - there is a notch 2.5x.5cm in the centre of the top of the screen for the forward facing camera.

Going around the outside has the on/off button – a four second push to turn it on – the base has power input from a propitiatory connector the other end of the supplied lead is Thunderbolt/USB ‘C’ a speaker and microphone. The left side has SIM entry point, volume up and volume down plus a lock flip. The top is totally clear. Shiny mid blue back with shiny Apple logo on the back with the two cameras and LED flash top left.

Boot up after the four second push on the on/off button is nine seconds and shut down around two seconds.

Not being a regular Apple user I always consider their security over the top, you have to have an Apple ID and every initial attempt to purchase a free item from the Apple store like Chrome or Google Photos needs your password to be reentered only then will it relent a little and allow other downloads for a limited time before again requiring the password.

Yes I would agree if the item you require costs money but not for free items.

Still that is Apples way and you have to suck it up if you want their kit.

The rear cameras are stated to capture 47% more light and I did find I was able to not use flash a lot more often. The night mode is also very impressive and even though I am not known for my steadiness the camera kept things correct for me. Depth of field can be adjusted after you capture the shot which can give some very interesting effects. Portrait mode effectively blurs the background to focus on the part of the image you want without it looking over cooked.

Smart HDR 4 now can focus on up to four different things in a single shot.

The ultra-wide feature means you can capture still more when indoors and unable to step further back.

While I still do not have 5G in my street I have found somewhere quite near that does so fast downloads are now possible.

You get three months of Apple TV and three months of Apple Arcade with the iPhone 13.

The iPhone 13 is available on a range of tariffs from the Vodafone link below one such is £29 upfront and £43 a month on a 36 month contract this gives unlimited calls and texts and 25GB of data.
