Acronis True Image

Probably the piece of software that I have used for the longest time as Windows has gone from V7, V8, V10 and now V11. It started as a way to reinstall files or the whole of Windows when it failed to boot and now while it can still reinstall via USB or CD-ROM it also does far more to protect you from people trying to deny you your 'work'.

I do not have 'Full Fibre' so uploads to the Internet – your subscription gives you 1TB cloud storage – are not fast for me anyway only practical for files rather than the whole PC even when its new and only really has the Windows 11 + Acronis True Image on it. But to give an idea the 58Gb was uploaded in four hours and fifty minutes. The same full upload using a USB3 port and USB3 external hard drive took 13 minutes.

'Protection' is the folder where you can find the extra things you are protected against. Ransomware is the one most might have heard of where you are stopped from accessing your PC or Notebook until you have paid a large amount of money. Illicit Cryptomining and Zoom Injection Attacks are two more. Malicious Files and Malicious Websites are two other ways people find files on their devices that can do harm, the least vicious is when you go to download a program and before it lets you, it downloads other programs that you may not want. Should you use Microsoft Teams there is something called injection attacks and it can protect against these.

Acronis has Anti Virus Software so you do not actually need other more famous named Anti Virus software but if you have it then Acronis may not implement one or more of the named items above to save possible compatibility issues.

You are notified in the tray when a new version is available and indeed when you start Acronis True Image it checks if a newer version is available for you to download.

Once you have decided what you want to save and how you want to save it locally or in the Cloud then the save starts and should you wish you can click an option to turn your PC off once completed.

While some Anti Virus Software will do some of the things that Acronis True Image does it will certainly not do them all and while some other 'backup' software will backup individual files or folders Acronis is still the only software that will install Windows and all your files totally from scratch.
