Laruaville 16

Developing a suitable area of the Land of the Dead may not be your favourite pastime but have you the skills to try?

Having reached number 16 in the series of Match 3 game play, Laruaville takes the player deep into the history of the Aztec world.  As usual with this series, the game revolves around the development of an area of Laruaville that has been assigned as suitable to a new-comer to this home of the dead.  This development will be carried out by the newly arrived soul and a spirit guide with both wearing the appropriate headdress showing they allegiance to Aztec beliefs.  They are immediately joined by the Aztec Sun God who was rather demanding in his appeals for his stomach to be fed by food and liquid as would happen with a human sacrifice.

Not willing to provide their services as the next sacrificial offering, the guide managed to persuade the Sun God to accept tomatoes and chillies as replacements for sacrifice elements.  In order to provide these elements and other facilities to appease the Sun God, certain major adjustments would have to be made to the area of Laruaville.  Buildings, especially altars and temples, would need to be created plus trade route set up to transport the goods to the appropriate locations.  While this is going on, the two mini characters float around Laruaville inspecting progress.

To raise the funds to pay for this redevelopment, Match 3 levels will need to be played.  With this series of game play you will need to collect ten gold coins for the grid to be completed.  These tasks can be carried out by a variety of methods that often involve the use of an explosion followed by the creation of a group of three or more tiles by swapping two that are adjacent.  Adding to the usual collection of tiles used in this series, version 16 introduces an Amulet tile that will destroy other such other Amulet tiles when made into a group.  Other elements used in some grids will include a one-direction canon, an obstacle bar that can be moved in either direction plus locks paired with keys.

Unlike some other Match 3 titles, the Laruaville offerings do not come with available power-ups.  You will need to create your own by combining other tiles from within the grid.  You can create a shell that can be fired along a row or down a column, produce a rocket fire to attack a random gold coin or make a red bomb which can be dragged into position to cause the required damage.

As you work through the 100 Match 3 levels, building up a store of each ten point reward for each completion, you will be offered a list of available facilities.  You can select which of these facilities you want next as long as you have the funds.  The facility will then be automatically added to the landscape of Laruaville as the two spirits fly around inspecting the area.

From time to time the steady stream of Match 3 action will be interrupted by a mini game puzzle. This could be a Spot the Difference game, release a key from a blocked area or play a Mah-jong layout featuring a reduced number of tiles.  Completing these mini games will not bring any reward apart from a degree of satisfaction.

Developed by LGT SIA, Laruaville 16 can be played in a choice of Relaxed mode, limited by Time or completed within a set number of Moves.  The title can be downloaded from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $9.99 and is also available from Big Fish Games priced at £7.50.  The game requires a 1.6 GHz processor with 1024MB of RAM and 157MB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
