Can you complete a range of tasks as you set out to defeat a Witch and take control of a Wand of Power?

Legacy Witch Island 3

Itera Labs has added to its Witch Island series of titles with a third offering entitled Legacy - Witch Island 3.  Your role in this combination of Hidden Object game play and mini game puzzle solving is that of a Princess.  Your task will be to set out to defeat an evil Witch who has plans of taking over the two worlds to which she will invite you to visit.

Prior to entering this dual environment, you can adjust certain volume levels, including that of Ambient which does affect the volume of spoken dialogue from human and animal characters.  Along with viewing the game in full screen mode you can select from East, Normal or Difficult levels of game play action.  Once these decisions have been made your attention will be grabbed straight from the start as you witness two people being transformed into an elephant and dog.  This is the work of the evil Witch and you are then carried off by a large swan to a magical island.  Your mission begins to confront the Witch so that you can take control of the Witch's Wand of Power.

The environment you are about to enter holds twin worlds where events and actions taken in one world will affect conditions in the other world.  In order to help you deal with this type of situation and make progress you will be provided with various tools.  Displayed against a well-drawn picture book style of scenes will be an area running across part of the screen.  This area will contain linked icons to a Diary, Menu and Map plus an inventory showing items you have collected and a Hint feature that will need recharging after each use.  Further assistance comes from the mouse cursor which changes shape to indicate when certain actions are possible.  An outbreak of sparkles in the scene will indicate when a Hidden Object game play scene can be accessed to find a relevant item.

During your search for the Witch, who is kept informed as to your progress by a Raven who is a bit of a tattle-tale, various human and animal characters will make an appearance.  They will generally have some information to impart regarding your quest.  This information will be delivered in both spoken and printed dialogue format.  When delivering their dialogue, human characters will be static although you could get movement when dialogue is delivered from any animal friends.

As you travel around the magical island in search of the Witch, you will be faced by various tasks including those that involve mini game puzzles and Hidden Object game play.  Providing a variety of challenges, the mini game play will often take a new slant of looking at an old problem will every effort made for it to fit in with the game's style.  In many case the mini game puzzle will be made of increasingly difficult levels but a Skip option will be available if you are really stuck.  Once tackled in the main game, these puzzles can be replayed from a Bonus section in the game's opening menu.

Hidden Object game play generally features the standard format of discovering a text list of items located within the scene.  Any item that is coloured yellow, rather than green, in the list will require an additional action before it can be found.  On odd occasions you will be presented with a different style of action and you will be challenged to identify ten unusual objects scattered in a display of miscellaneous image.  With this particular challenge, if you click on an incorrect selection, you will need to start the task again.

I found the mixture of magical powers, talking creatures, time travel episode and devices such as a flying carpet in Legacy - Witch Island 3 to be challenging with an addictive quality that is sometimes missing from other titles.  I downloaded my copy of this game from Gamehouse.com where it is priced at $9.99.  It is also available from Big Fish Games priced at £7.93.  The game requires a 2.0 GHz processor with 3072MB of RAM and 1.25GB of hard disk space running Windows 7 and later.
