NOKIA 4G WINDOW PHONE ON VODA
The phone is well-built, is black in colour and being 129 x 71 x 8.5mm thick fits comfortably into one’s hand. Also, weighing 139 g it isn’t a heavy burden in the pocket or handbag. The AMOLED 1280 x 768 (WXGA) display is very easy to read both indoors and in ordinary daylight and, being gorilla glass, the screen is robust and scratch-resistant. The micro-USB connector, the 3.5mm jack and the micro-SIM slot are all on the top edge while all the buttons are on the right hand edge.
It is a 2G, 3G and 4G multiband phone with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity together with GPS which supports its mapping and location applications. The dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 1.5GHz with 1GB RAM ensures that downloads are fast as is using and switching apps. The 2000mAh battery is claimed to give a standby time of 18 days with talk-times of up to 18.3 and 12.8 hours on 2G and 3G respectively as well as browsing times of 6 hours and 7.2 hours on cellular & Wi-Fi respectively. As with a great many phones, the battery is not user-replaceable.
Using one’s Office 365 account (and a fast network) one can access and work with office documents etc. held in the cloud or on your own network. While this will be a key consideration for many users, other applications have not been sacrificed and are all there.
As well as tiles for calendar, mail, messaging, phone (Vodafone UK), photos, games, Internet Explorer, People and Office one can easily access the full list of apps including HERE Maps and HERE Transit in addition to Camera, Creative Studio and Photos apps. The Carl Zeiss lens of the 8.7MP primary camera with autofocus and dual LED flash produces good images in most lighting conditions. There is also a video mode.
The fact that there are less additional apps available for Windows Phone than for either iPhone or Android is a factor which some potential users may take into account. However, it is probably not of great significance for the business user as those available seem to meet the needs of most serious users.
The Lumia 925 is an all-round phone for the business user who needs seamless integration with their desktop in the office while on the move as well as having tools to support activities on the move such as mapping and navigation. Vodafone offers both the 16 and 32GB variants of the 925 on pay-monthly plans from £20.83 with the actual cost being dependent on duration of contract together with minutes, texts and data usage. In addition it is also offered free on Vodafone Red 4G-ready price plans (including unlimited minutes, unlimited texts, 3GB of UK data as well as 6 months free access to Spotify or Sky Sports Mobile TV).
