Geomag Mechanics ‘Loops & Turns’

As Christmas draws ever nearer I get the occasional chance to try games and puzzles here is one such item from a range by Geomag. This product is one of a range that gives the child a chance to use their brain to create an item that works.

Aimed at ‘8 plus’ this product should be for child old enough not to try eating parts of it but the ‘safety’ guide covers what younger children might try to do. The manual is in three languages all on the same pages with English always listed first.

There are 130 pieces in total that come in four different sealed bags. These are ‘structural elements’, ‘building tracks’, ‘normal and parabolic curves’ and finally ‘magnetic canons’.

There are pages devoted to clear images showing how to assemble each and then pages showing how to make use of the resulting items.

While this is a useable product on its own it can link to other products in the range and the manual ends by showing what can be achieved once more than one product is linked together.

For those of a certain age – like me – it was always something that Meccano did, you purchase a set which then you built what was shown but always more was possible with extra bits, here however they link together without the need of nuts and bolts.

Once assembled correctly the magnetic canon fires the sphere around the curves. Many examples are given but like the old Meccano what can be built is up to your imagination.

It matters today that plastics are recycled and here it is made of 74% recycled.

To my mind the most important thing is the construction, with knowledge that once constructed correctly the spheres with complete the course.

The quality of the plastic was excellent as were the illustrations in the manual and best of all it should fire the child’s imagination and probably teach them why certain things work correctly and probably also why others do not simply by trying to make the impossible possible.

At the time of publication the Mechanics Gravity ‘Loops and Turns’ product is available from Amazon priced at £26.24
