Having just finished the monster 28inch offering from Hanns-G this big unit seems almost normal in size. It has exactly the same resolution but instead of the notional 27.5inches diagonal measurement it is 25.5inches.
The big thing about this 22inch panel is not the resolution it is what now seems to be a standard 1680x1080, it’s not the wonderful sound –their isn’t any- it is simply that is uses less power in both use and on standby so it can help your pocket and the planet.
I find it weird that my more than three year old 20inch panel has a greater resolution than a brand new 22inch offering. Of course my panel is 4:3 and this is 16:9. The panel is 51x34cm and is a maximum of 9cm thick. It has a 20cm circular stand and this raises it 6cm above the desk. The screen itself is 47x29.5cm giving the diagonal 22inch measurement. The rear has connections for analogue and digital as well as the power.
Not that long ago a 22inch panel would have cost a great deal, now it costs no more than a 15inch panel did at that same time. Here I am looking at a widescreen 22inch offering that has built in speakers.
First the all important dimensions, the Hannspree XM-s 22inch Flat Panel 'Verona' is 50x36x9cm, it stands on a base that lifts it 5cm above your desk. The stand is oval at 19x28cm. While there is close to 20degrees of tilt backwards there is only a couple of degrees forward movement. My unit was black although the rather difficult to negotiate HANNspree site shows other colours including a wood effect but does not make it clear what these apply too.
A name I only heard about through a third party, they are a company big in Germany and they have distributors in the UK.
This V7 L22WD is a 22 inch panel that has built in speakers. The screen is 50x36x6cm. The last dimension the width is the maximum as at the edges it is only half that. The stand raises it 6cm above the desk and is 19x25cm. It is matt black with a silver/grey band round the edge of the screen that matches the stand. The dimensions around the outside of the viewable area of the screen are 47x29.5cm giving the 22inch diagonal measurement.
This is a slim sleek looking 20 inch panel however maybe not all is as it should be even if the image it gives is clear and crisp even at the end of a long day.
First the all important dimensions, the outer measurements of the screen are 48x31.5cm with the stand raising it 8cm above the desk. The viewable screen size is 43x27.5cm giving the diagonal screen measurement of 20.1 inches. The base is 26x18cm and is a silver/grey colour. The screen surround is black with a 2.5cm silver/ grey band. HP W2007V The screen have a good range of tilt both back and forward from vertical.
This is a widescreen panel that is also a dock for your iPod allowing you to charge and or play it while working at your PC. Just like the Swiss army knife this has more much more.
For regular readers the is basically the same unit as I but as that was a 19inch panel it's maximum display size was 1440x900 while this 22inch one can display 1680x1050. Viewsonic VX2245 reviewed on the 6/6/07 The overall dimensions are 52x38x6cm and it weighs a little over 6kilos. I remember my first 17inch monitor if you moved it you certainly had somewhere nearby to put it down again.
How many leads do you expect to get with a monitor or panel? A power lead and a signal lead, maybe two signal leads if like this it is both Analogue and Digital, here however you get those and more, much more.
This unit also has a dock for an iPod and speakers so you get all the leads I suggested above, plus two audio leads a power brick and lead a USB lead and just for good measure a box containing six different shields to fit into the iPod dock to accommodate the various sizes and styles of iPod. Viewsonic The actual screen surround is 44x33cm, with the stand bringing it 10cm above the desk. The stand is oval and a maximum of 20cm in depth.
This is a rather nice 20inch panel from LG. It has both analogue and digital connectors as well as some quite reasonable speakers built in. It also has a TV tuner.
First the dimensions it is 49cm tall on it's base, 45cm wide and around 6cm thick at the thickest point. The base itself is circular at around 25cm. It weights 8.5kilos. The screen itself is 44x27.5 giving the 20inch diagonal measurement. It has a 3cm surround on both sides and the top, the bottom has a 9cm surround with two quite reasonable conical speakers in it.
LCD screens with fast response times are becoming more affordable as can be seen with the LG Flatron L1732P unit.
For a long time my main computer display was handled by the original Flatron CRT monitor from LG. Sad to say that monitor has now departed the scene, taking with it its built-in set of USB ports, after providing many years of excellent service. Currently acting as a temporary replacement is another Flatron model. This is the LG Flatron L1732P unit.
Do you need to increase the space on your desktop? Then why not change your bulky CRT monitor for a slim line LCD screen.
This 20inch LCD Wide Screen Monitor would have cost an arm and two legs not that long ago, now they cost about the same as a good 17inch CRT monitor cost a few years ago and they only gave you a maximum of a 16inch viewable screen.
Without - hopefully - giving to much away, this to me is an "object of desire" I first saw a pre production unit last summer and I am told I have looked at the first one in the UK. You can see it for yourself during the next three weeks or so on the Abrocour stand at the Ideal Home Show.
Reviewing this so soon after the excellent Philips offering published 17/1/05 gave me more than a few problems. Firstly is it a monitor/TV or a TV/monitor, Samsung list it as a Business unit.
Firstly the dimensions and from these figures some will immediately see my problem 52x34x15cm the latter figure is the depth of the base the actual panel is no more than 5cm deep. A standard 17inch monitor has a screen of 32x27cm this unit from Samsung 37x22cm. Both would give the notional measurement of 17inches when measured diagonally, but the screen makeup and shape is very different. So this leads me to the conclusion that this is a TV/monitor.
A flat panels display is always the measurement stated, a monitor is normally at least an inch less than stated, also a flat panel will alway take up far less space.
This 21.3inch panel can be used either portrait or landscape and is easily big enough to display two pages of a Word document side by side. That however is only a small part of it’s abilities.
Surprisingly it fits in the same space taken by my 17inch monitor in fact I have an area about 18x40cm free in front of the panel that was just not available with my monitor in place. Whereas I used my monitor at 1024x768 the panel has just the same readability at 1280x1024 and the amount of extras I can fit open on the Desktop is incredible.
