Tivoli Audio Albergo+

This is a DAB and – for the regions that support it – DAB+ radio, however you can also use it as an Auxiliary player via 3.5mm lead and perhaps more usefully a Bluetooth output completes this black boxes understated offerings.

The Tivoli Audio Albergo+ measures 17.5x11x12cm and a meaty 62cm eleven piece rod aerial extends from the back, this can clip into the back when not in use. The unit weights one kilo. Slightly indented into the back are four connectors, headphones, external speaker, Auxiliary input and DC input. The DC input lead is 1.8metres ending in power brick with mains at the top of the back so be aware if you have shirting board sockets.

The sides are clear with the base having four rubber feet to raise the unit slightly from whatever you place it on.

On first switch on make sure the aerial is extended so it can Autotune for DAB stations I found 62 in less than a minute.

On subsequent applying of power you go to a four line 16 character per line display of white on blue. The top two lines show the digital time, the third line shows day, month and year in numerals and the forth line simply says Tivola Audio. The display is 6.5x2.7cm.

Below the display are the units controls a lione of five touch buttons, tune-, tune+, sleep, Bluetooth and source.

The unit has two alarms and these are set using the three buttons below the line of five just mentioned. To the left of the controls is a 7cm round fine mesh that hides the 3inch mono speaker.

You will have noticed that I have failed to mention volume, on/off and sleep all these are controlled from a single near flush fitting 3cm round button set into the top of the unit.

As far as DAB stations are concerned the display shows time on the top two lines the station on line three and station information which may or may not include song title. There are also some small icons either side of the time on the top line all shown clearly in the owners manual.

The manual is in seven languages with 15 pages in each.

There is an 11.5x5x.5cm remote control (battery supplied) this has twenty buttons and among other things this is where you set five presets for each band. Everything is covered by the manual.

The radio source can be changed either from the button on the unit or by the remote, whichever one you use you will be returned to the last station you listened to on that band.

The sequential use of the source button is DAB, FM, Bluetooth and Auxiliary.

Sound quality for a small unit was quite acceptable and it would make an ideal alarm clock radio

I liked the black colour but found the white remote somewhat strange, why does this not also come in black? If you are controlling from a distance I can see the point of a remote but this becomes essential to both set and use presets.

This is a nice unit and has good sound quality including an equalizer to get the tome to what suits your ears. My only real reservation is the price.

The Tivoli Audio Albergo+ is available from link below for £199 with free delivery (also available in white)

For the record, the model reviewed is actually called the Tivoli Audio Albergo+ not Alberto+.
