Snuggie - the blanket with sleeves

Snuggies are an ideal solution to some of the colder aspects of the British winter.

While not, strictly speaking, a gadget they can certainly be thought of as a gadget accessory although they will be a useful addition to many sedentary activities.

A Snuggie can be thought of as a practical blanket. Your traditional blanket is just fine for keeping you warm in bed but has severe limitations if you want to do anything - like read. Or for that matter sit at a desk and... errrr... well write an article. Yes - I am indeed sat here typing away in my cold study wrapped in my Snuggie!

Available in three colours: royal blue, burgundy or sage green the Snuggie is a very simple concept - take a large blanket sized piece of fleece material and add a couple of strategically placed arm-holes. This simple addition allows you to wrap your entire body all the way to your neck in the warm material and still have your hands free.

The Snuggie is ideal for desk work (home based most probably unless your work colleagues already consider you something of an eccentric!) and play. Even a relatively warm room can feel chilly if you're not moving around much so reading, video games even watching TV and needing a hand free for a nice glass of wine are suitable candidates for the Snuggie. It's also ideal for the kids on long car journeys allowing them to entertain themselves with their games or books without getting cold.

Although I've only recently come across the Snuggie I have since mentioned it to a couple of friends who seem better informed than I. While I raved to them about my Snuggie discovery they claimed that it wasn't for them - I do however wonder whether they are secret Snuggie owners?

While perfect for sitting still there are times when you need to get up - in my case usually for another cup of tea to stoke the little grey cells. I've managed to perfect the art of hoisting the Snuggie such that I don't have to unwrap myself. Catching a glimpse of myself in the mirror one time I did however look a little like a monk - rather that than be cold though!

Snuggies - a perfect way to keep warm without turning up your heating! Oh - and as I write my cat is sat on my lap on my Snuggie so they get the animal vote as well!
