Bayan 7 Speaker

Having recently discovered the Bayan 3 I am looking at its bigger sibling the Bayan 7. This is the biggest and they also do a ‘Grand’ however it is still designed as an iPod player but you would definitely not move it too often.

The wooden body is 26x27x23cm but that only contains the main speaker, two more sets of speakers are in the Perspex surround so the overall width is 44cm and the height is 27cm, the Perspex which contains the speakers is 1cm thick. Need I say it’s not that light, moveable yes but as it is mains powered certainly not portable.

While some will say an iPod or anything connected by a 3.5mm jack is not likely to sound great for a small system this is pretty good. There is 120 watts power available. It has an 8inch bass as well as 2inch mid-range and 1inch tweeters.

While they are available in white both the Bayan 3 (reviewed 23-5-12) and this Bayan 7 system have been in black. The near seven kilo weight mean that it needs a good table or desk or maybe it can be used floor standing. I have tried both and what you stand it upon does affect the sound the same music can sound very different.

The wood is what gives the sound quality and certainly to place an iPod into a speaker that costs more than the iPod means you must be serious about your music – or very rich. This has a further feature that some may be able to appreciate it has not one but two iPod or iPhone docks and with the remote you can switch between the two.

As with the Bayan3 you can also choose to input sounds from your Tablet PC, it has a USB to charge and it comes with a 3.5 to 3.5mm lead so you can play music on your device but hear the difference when output on the Bayan.

Here even experts may be unable to shout that loudly as if your Tablet supports WAV or other lossless formats then the whole range can be output. Tablet speakers are normally poor if only because of space restrictions, output your music via the Bayan to hear exactly what was originally input from whatever the source.

Another feature is that to hear speech the Bayan has a special mode this can produce improved sounding speech.

The top of the unit has a single button red when power is being received from the hard wired 1.8metre long main lead. Press the button it turns blue and then hand over control to the remote, it is even possible to switch from standby using the remote.

The remote is almost identical to that used by the Bayan3 with the exception of the second line of buttons that read iPod1, iPod2 and Tablet where the Bayan 3 only supported a single iPod but also allowed Auxiliary input.

The twelve page Instruction Manual covers all the Bayan devices so you must check that the features mentioned apply to your device.

Sound is everything for Bayan. As it was several months ago when I looked at the Bayan3 I have only my notes to remind me how good the sound was, here it is even better but of course you must temper your thoughts together with the price differential.

I look forward to telling you about the Bayan Grand shortly.

Doing my searches found the Bayan7 at £296.28 from the second link below. Mine was black and the one shown here is white. http://bayanaudio.com/
