Canon MG7150

The Canon MG7150 is an All-In-One unit so it can print, scan, and copy. It is a six ink unit and this means that if you use one colour more than the others there is less waste as you can buy just the ink you need. It is also rather sleek.

The Canon MG7150 measures 46x37x15cm with the paper output tray closed; open it and you add 17cm to the middle figure.

There are two paper trays near the base, the top one is for photo sheets 6x4inch or 7x5inch and the lower tray is for A4. It weights a tad over 8kilos so you might even place it on a strong shelf as it does not need to be tethered to the PC as it is both USB and Wi-Fi.

When the paper output tray is lowered there are three card slots visible on the left side. A single touch button for on/off is the only visible control on the sloping front of the top in front of the flatbed scanner. To the right of this in the centre of the slope is a 7x5cm TFT screen that controls everything.

A full install of the software will take up to 3GB or space. However you can select which parts to install and My Image Garden is by far the largest portion of it.

My tests found you got 16PPM in draft mode when printing a short document. A more normal document spread over four pages was only slightly slower at 14.5PPM.

However this is a six ink offering so you would probably use it for more photo printing and I found an A4 page printed in just over a minute on photo paper.

The stated number of sheets in the lower paper tray is 125, to my mind it is far less, when I had 50 sheets in it I considered it very full.

The scanner has a maximum interpolation mode of 2400x4800. A page scans in around 15seconds and can be saved as an image, a PDF or even imported as text for OCR.

Copying takes around 15seconds and does not need any connection with the PC in fact this can be done without the PC even being switched on. There are size reduction and multiple copy options available.

The touchscreen TFT display is easy to follow; the normal Home screen has just three icons, Copy, Scan and Cloud. However flip this left and the display shows ECO Settings, Quiet Settings and Setup. Flip right and you get WLan, Advanced Print and Photo.

As with most recent units there is an App to allow you to print remotely from what Canon describe as ‘Small Devices’. You also have the ability to print from The Cloud. From the Pixma cloud you can even print Stationery and Templates.

Automatic double sided printing is possible from the printer preferences screen.

For those who print a lot the cost of inkjet printing with optional high yield cartridges is now close or even lower than printing from a laser.

The Canon Pixma MG7150 is available in White or Black from the first link below for £124.99 with free delivery.
