For under twenty pounds, this next product uses German technology to add speaker output to a computer.

Founded in 1974, the company Jöllenbeck is the driving force behind the Speedlink brand of devices that cover gaming. computers, office, sound and accessories for PCs tablets, camera and smartphones.  I have recently had the opportunity to check out the Speedlink Daroc product which is a set of stereo speakers.

Positioned at the lower end of the market regarding speaker systems, the Daroc consists of two compact speaker units and various permanently leads plus a small concertina style User Guide.  While you might welcome the appearance of this User Guide, which covers various languages, its content is extremely basic and barely scratches the surface and offers little of use to the purchaser.  Even downloading the online version of the User Guide does not improve matters as it is exactly the same as the document included in the box.

Decked out entirely in black, the two speaker units have dimensions of 78 x 87 x 169 mm (W x D x H).  Befitting its budget status, the speakers do have a plastic feel to them.  The two speakers are similar in appearance apart from a control knob, doubling as an on/off switch and volume level adjustment and two 3.5 mm jack sockets delivering audio connection for headphones and microphone use, decorating the front of one speaker.

This speaker is also the unit which houses the majority of the various leads.  Both speakers feature an opened circular output facility for delivering the audio.  Each speaker is mounted on four soft foam feet to help ensure a non-slip grip on whatever surface they are placed.  Overall the appearance of the speakers remind me of the speaker units that came bundled with early home computer systems a few years back.

Power for these speakers is provided via a USB lead that is permanently attached to the speaker bearing the control knob.  Other leads permanently attached to this same speaker are those for connecting to a PC for providing audio from a microphone and headphones.  These leads both measure 214 cm which should be adequate for most eventualities.  The final lead, which links the right speaker with the left unit. is a little on the short side at 130 cm for my taste and might cause a little difficulty when positioning the two speakers in available space for delivering the stereo output.

The Daroc speakers can give out 12W of peak power from its 2 x 2.5 inch drivers.  Delivering a frequency of 150 Hz - 29 kHz, the Daroc speaker audio output will certainly not appeal to Hi-Fi enthusiasts as you would no doubt expect considering the product's budget appearance and price.  The product is only really suitable for users who require basic audio output for occasional sound effects and background music to help while away periods when other matters have the focus of your attention as you carry out day to day activities.

As mentioned earlier, and causing some flashbacks to the time I worked with my first few computers, the Daroc speakers general appearance and performance are a consistent reminder.  Available from retailers, such as Amazon, this speaker system is priced accordingly at £17.99.
