Designed for a business environment, the BenQ BL-2405 model is a 24-inch backlight monitor with the capability to act in portrait and landscape modes depending upon your needs.  This combination of display screen and adjustable stand has dimensions of 503 x 579 x 213mm in portrait orientation and 392 x 579 x 213mm when used in landscape mode.  There is also an option to wall mount the unit if desk space is a problem.

As can sometime happen with review products, my sample arrived sans a couple of items that should form part of the standard package as listed on the company’s website.  Two and three-pin power leads plus the three-piece monitor and stand unit were included but there was no sign of the promised software CD and instructions document.  Fortunately the actual putting together of the monitor and stand was relatively easy and just required the tightening of five screws and linking the screen to a computer were completed without the assistance of instructions.

Surrounded by a plain, matte black 2cm bezel, the 24-inch backlight LED screen has its various controls and power options situated on the lower right side of the unit.  As I am right-handed, I found these controls easily accessible as I turned on the power and accessed features such as Auto, Menu, Display, and Low Blue.  Tucked away out of sight and located on the rear of the display panel, partially concealed by an over-hang ridge, are connection sockets for mains power and links to the chosen computer via HDMI, DVI-D and D-sub plus a headphone jack socket.

As mentioned earlier, this BenQ model can be used in either portrait or landscape mode.  To achieve this situation you need to turn the monitor through 90 degrees and make the necessary selection from the screen resolution pop-up menu.  Appropriate instructions are provided in the User Manual which I had to download from the company’s website.  Of course, when physically turning the screen you will need to make sure there is enough room for this to take place by adjusting the height of the screen.  By sliding the screen up or down along the stand unit, you can adjust the height at which the screen is displayed by as much as 150mm to suit various situations whether at work or play.

Height and orientation are not the only adjustments that are available with this monitor.  It is a simple matter to swivel the positioning of the display through 45 degrees sideways.  You can also adjust the slope of the screen by as much as 20 degrees to apply the appropriate viewing angle.

With the screen positioned and angled to suit your needs, you can sit back (while working) and enjoy the flicker-free technology built into this unit without suffering from the effects and stress that can be caused with some monitors during long viewing sessions.  This monitor also features BenQ Low Blue Light technology that has been designed to filter out blue light which is often given as the cause of eye fatigue and irritation.  Using the Blue Light hot key allows you to switch between four modes designated as Multimedia, Web Surfing, Office and Reading as you cycle through the modes with multiple presses.  Depending upon the current mode, the Blue Light quota will be reduced between 30 and 70%.

The screen has an aspect ratio of 16:9 with a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 which should be fine for many office-based tasks.  Pixel pitch has been measured at 0.276mm with a display of 16.7m colours.  While gamers might prefer to look elsewhere, office and business users should enjoy the easy screen adjustments and picture quality delivered by this model which I have seen priced at £134.99.
