Acer Nitro 50

This Desktop offering is very different to the small and compact offering that I had previously reviewed on 10th February this year. While that could sit quietly and just do its job this is big and not only has a large illuminated ā€˜Vā€™ on its front the left side has lots of holes that show the inside and also omit a good amount of light to its surroundings.

It is 36x17x33cm with the best part of another 5cm needed behind for cable insertion.

The front of the unit has a strip down the right side beyond the proud ‘V’ that has on/off button near the top and then below this an always on USB and an always on USB ‘C’ and further down two 3.5mm audio sockets.

The rear has a line of four USB3 sockets and below this two USB sockets with an Ethernet socket and below this a line of three 3.5mm audio sockets all these are a single module with the other part of the rear beside this being the fan area. Below this is the video card which has Digital and HDMI connections. Even lower just above the base is the input for the kettle style lead.

The right side is solid and as already mentioned the left side is made up of a pattern of small holes. The top has a wireless charger built in towards the front.

Looking at the link at the end the unit comes with a wireless keyboard and mouse but these never arrived with me however I was able to use my own USB offerings without any problems.

This unit is certainly aimed at the Gamer and is rapid even with several applications open at the same time.

It has an Intel i5Hex core processor running at 2.9GHz and burst capability of 4.3GHz. The RAM is DDR4 and it has 8GB of it. It comes with a 1TB SSD drive.

  • The graphics are NVIDIA GTX 1660 SUPER with 6GB memory GDDR6.
  • The Ethernet is rapid but so is the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth also worked efficiently. Bootup is a rapid 12 seconds while shutdown is only 4 seconds both are better than most units.
  • It comes with Windows 10 Home and I was able to update it to the current 20H2 version during my review period and just before the end of my review I got the February updates.
  • During the review the unit was quiet and I do not remember the fans being at all intrusive even in a silent room, the built in sound chip works well with either speakers or headphones.
  • For me – not a gamer – I could do without all the lights but for those who are they might improve the gaming atmosphere.

This unit seems to be an exclusive to Argos at £799 however if you have a Nectar card you also get 3999 points with the unit.
