Strange times not that long ago if you went into a bank or jewellers wearing a mask the alarm would sound. Now if you go on a bus or train and you do not wear a mask then you face an immediate fine. Yes it’s a different kind of mask but when people wore a hijab with just the eyes showing lots of people were very unhappy, now with a Pandemic not only is a mask OK, its required, even in a lot of shops.

click image to enlargeThe type of mask worn by most is a piece of cloth with a couple of strings to tie behind the ears; this will not protect you but is stated to protect others. This type of mask is a wear once type and if you wash them as I know lots of people do it should be at 60 degrees Celsius which could damage any elastic strings.
I remember an advert run on the tube not long ago that stated a single sneeze could travel almost the length of a standard tube carriage, this was about cold or flu germs, now of course the germs are far worse they can kill.
There is PPE (personal protective equipment) as used by the NHS and staff in care homes and the job of that is to protect both the wearer and the patient.
Here is a halfway house where not only does the mask protect others from you but it also gives a good amount of protection to you from others and the germs around you.
It is triangular in shape and at the face end is 10cm from top to bottom and 9cm from side to side, it’s around 5cm from front to back and made of a silicon rubber type material very soft and able to mould itself to your facial features. The front of the mask is in two parts that fit snugly together and between these a removable and replaceable filtration material.
A 45cm strong silicon string fits in either side of the mask front and goes round the back of your head and after 7cm on each side splits into two to go over and under your ears.
This mask can be worn for seven days.
All parts - apart from the disposable filter – can be boiled to sterilize – full instructions are giving in the box after the seven days of use and then refit another filter ready for another seven days of use.

First assembly was reasonably easy with feeding the silicon strings to the right length a little fiddly but not difficult. Getting the two parts of the front apart was harder I used a broad thin blade of a kitchen knife and then with the filter in place they press together, instructions on which way the filter goes in are given.
Having worn a range of masks on buses I find most hot to wear and they also steam up my glasses and as stated most are just fulfilling the law to wear a facial covering giving you no protection.
This was comfortable to wear and my glasses did not steam up as you are breathing though the filter on the front of the unit and the action of breathing also contracts the silicon sides onto your face for a close fit. The best and most comfortable mask I have worn.
