Acer Predator Notebook

This is a powerful Notebook which at the time of setup you can have as Windows 10 or Windows 11. I choose Windows 10 and after the normal 15 minutes’ worth of questions answered was able to use the machine, as usual there are a number of updates to do to bring it right up to date. So after a few days having done all the updates I expected to be offered the chance to upgrade and as I was not I restored it and this time I choose Windows 11.

The Acer Predator Notebook  measures 32x22.5x1.8cm and weighs 1722 grams. The screen is 31x17.5cm, 14inch. The viewable screen is 1920x1080 with the default display set to 150%.

Bootup is 8 seconds while shutdown is 5 seconds. It has an 11th Generation Intel 17 processor running at 3.3GHz. It comes with 16GB RAM and has a 1TB SSD (952GB).

Going around the outside on the left has a Kensington Lock port, Power input, USB3 port, USB ‘C’ which can also charge. The front is clear; on the right are headphone socket, USB3 and HDMI. The rear is clear but has lots of heat disbursing vents, more about these later on. The base has a 25cm long rubber strip 1.5cm from the back at the front are two 4cm long strips at each end with the down facing 3.5cm long speakers outlets outside them these give perfectly adequate sound.

The keyboard is 87 keys with the Alpha keys being fullsize. There is a 1.5cm clear strip either side with 3cm clear behind, the area in front of the keyboard is 8cm deep with the 10.5x6.5cm trackpad mounted centrally in that area.

By default Windows 11 has only the Recycle Bin and Microsoft Edge icons on the Desktop. On the Tray are Start with three rows of six icons and also the ability to shut it down. Next is Search which with Windows 11 still being very new you will probably use a lot to find things. Next is Desktop with the option to create another. Next is Widgets, Next is Chat, Microsoft Edge and Finally File Explorer.

You get a free games pass from Microsoft and when used the G-Force RTX 3600 GPU gets a workout.

There is 144Hz refresh rare. The mass of cooling comes into its own it’s called Aeroblade and I am told the fans are 3D.

In my tests I found that six hours of mixed use had it screaming vigorously to have the power lead reconnected. To be honest that is about the only minus point that I can find to tell you about this powerful and rather nice notebook.

Below is the nearest fit I can find as Acer have a whole range of processor and memory options for most of their computers, the processor is right, the memory is right, the SSD is right as is the screen size but the model number is not.

At the time of publication this Acer Predator laptop is available from Amazon for £1048.17.
