Jabra and Bluetooth

Image of author
Jabra was a name new to me, they do headsets and speakers for use with Bluetooth mobile phones, however when I looked around in various mobile phone shops I see their name is quite widespread.

Here I am looking at one from their range of headsets and a speaker system useful in the car or office again using Bluetooth.

Jabra BT205

This is a small and light it weights less than 25grams, it fits behind the ear and gives you four hours of continuous talk time. The unit is black and silver and 8cm wide to accommodate the microphone and a total of 8cm long for the controls that sit at the rear of the unit. However this is not anything like a square the 8cm width is simply there to reach the jaw to give good sound quality for the receiver and of course to enable you to speak in a normal voice.

In use I found I needed to speak no louder than I do when using a phone without a headset. Unfortunately I doubt this will stop the people who manage to boom out for everyone to hear - even if they don't want to - 'I'm on the train pick me up in ten minutes'.

Listening to someone speaking on one of these Jabra headsets is great because the sound cancelling microphone cuts down background noise even in noisy environments.

I Have mentioned the four hours of talk time but in standby mode it lasts up to 120 hours, it is supplied with a charging cradle that recharges it in only two hours.

Jabra SP500

This is a device that is most likely to be used in a car, but it could equally well be fitted in an office to provide a rather good speakerphone.

This is silver and black, oval in shape and 12.5x7x3.5, it looks heavier than it's 170grams. The front has a 2 watt speaker on the left side with a large button to receive/close a call.

This has an amazing 20 hours of talk time and 480 hours in stand by all on two 1.2 volt rechargeable batteries. The box contains not only an A/C charger but also a car charging unit that works off the 'cigar' lighter socket.

It works within a 10 metre radius of the mobile so you should be able to use it without any difficulties. Providing your phone supports it you can use voice dialling from the speakerphone, now that is pushing technology.

So for anyone who uses a Bluetooth phone especially in a car two possible solutions that enable you to stay within the law. Doing an Internet search the best prices are £30 for the headset and £52 for the speakerphone. Expect to pay more from the various phone shops.

www.jabra.com from 'products' select 'wireless headset' or 'wireless speakerphone'.
