This console is a mine of information, putting the Oxford Dictionaries of English, Quotations and Modern Slang, along with the Britannica Concise Encyclopedia, Oxford Thesaurus of English and Fowler's Modern English Usage into a pocket sized unit.

Seiko have teamed up with Oxford University Press and Encyclopedia Britannica to put their weighty publications into a handheld console similar in size to the Nintendo DS. It's quite amazing to think that a good sized bookshelf's worth of knowledge has been squeezed into this little handy unit.

This console would be handy for anyone interested in words and their meanings. Equally useful for crossword fanatics, quiz lovers and students of English. And it would certainly save the kids from carrying around heavy dictionaries.

The silver coloured metal cased console flips open to reveal a screen and a small keyboard. The library contains an encyclopedia, dictionary and thesaurus which you can use in much the same way as the book versions. You simply type in the word you are intersted in, press enter, and the relevant information shows up on the screen.

Added to this there is a compendium of quotes from famous people. I had great fun looking up my favourite author Oscar Wilde and was pleased to see a long list of quotes from his pen. Also included are Fowler's Modern English Usage and a Dictionary of Modern Slang.

Of particular use to the crossword and quiz lover is the Solve function which helps you with everything from crosswords to anagrams, a sepllchecker and more. A games selection includes old favourties such as Hangman, general knowledge and cross word quiz and word challenge, amongst others. The games are word and problem solving orientated based on simple word and line drawing displays. They are a nice little feature, but not the main reason you would buy this unit.

The Seiko Oxford/Britannica Reference Library is a mine of information . It's very easy to use and has a zoom function for those with poorer sight.. My only request would be the addition of a backlight, as the unit was a little difficult to use under dimmed lights, indoors, in the evening.

This handy console can be found at Amazon for £127.49 including shipping
