Homedics Vibrating Comfort Massager with Heat

Not the first back massage unit I have reviewed, as – like a lot of people of my age – I have a bad back they are always met with my backs apprehensive approval. This has one advantage over other powered units its small size when rolled up.

While the back is 55x48cm and the connected seat 36x45cm it comfortably rolls up with the power lead and adapter together with the car adapter into a box 45x17x17cm.

Previous items I have reviewed have done more than this item, often they have Shiatsu ability built in, however if you just need massage to your back with or without heat then this is priced as a near impulse buy.

As it is able to be rolled up and stored in such a small package then this could be ideal for those who just overdo things occasionally and it can be unrolled when required.

It has just three controls all of which are accessible from your left hand behind your back as they are part of the upright of the massager.

Its portability means that if you move around so can it and it even comes with a cigar lighter socket so it can be used in most cars.

There is a Velcro strap to hold the base in place and another strap to hold the back securely about one minute to fix or remove.

The unit will only work when the pressure switch in the seat squab is activated.

Certainly I can find the heat setting acceptable when traveling but I am not sure about the massage on a tender back if you are driving.

As my unit arrived without instructions I do not know if you are cautioned about its use when driving. The only instructions I have are on the outside of the box.

Vibration Massage to Relax and Invigorate.

Soothing Heat to comfort tired muscles.

Customised Zone Control that allows you to select which area of the back to work on, upper, lower or middle.

It also mentions that it’s easy to use and that its portable and convenient.

There is a 1.8metre lead to a small power brick when used on mains power, this lead emerges from the back left of the seat squab. There is the same length of lead to the car cigar adapter and this fits into the same fitting on the back left of the seat squab. I see no difficulty with length from the car cigar adapter assuming you are sitting in one the front seats. There might be a problem if you were sitting in your lounge in being less than 1.8metres from the left of the seat squab.

So was it helpful, yes. Not having the extra pressure connected with Shiatsu meant my old and infirm back wanted more, the heat being available separately was nice but this is their entry level powered product so the range further up can do far more.

I suspect this is great for those with temporary problems caused by say excess exercise or over enthusiastic DIY as an example.
