WAHL Deluxe Gift Set

Christmas is on the way - and if you need a gift idea for a man in your life then you might want to take a look at the WAHL Deluxe Gift Set. That is if the man in question takes his grooming seriously!

While I'm not an expert it would seem this set has everything one would need to keep their hair, and beard, in check. On the 'manual' side there is a comb and a pair of hairdresser scissors suitable for trimming an errant fringe. The main interest though will be the three electrical appliances.

Smallest in the collection and the only one I felt qualified to try in anger is a nasal trimmer. Having reached the age where hair is growing less where I want it and more where it chooses the nasal trimmer by itself would be an ideal gift. I must report that this item worked flawlessly and much more effectively than other trimmers I've tried.

Next up is a battery operated trimmer. This takes two AA batteries which are included in the set. This is a small trimmer ideal for trimming a beard or the hair on the nape of the neck. The trimmer has a length adjustable comb with five length settings. This was the most fiddly part of the set - I found adjusting the comb to be somewhat difficult although I wouldn't expect you'd have to change the length often.

The final piece in this gift set is a mains powered trimmer. This has a very professional feel. The trimmer comes complete with eight length combs giving everything from a Number 1 cut (3mm) through to a Number 8 cut (25mm). There are also two ear-taper combs, one for the left and one for the right. As the name suggests these are tapered in length and allow the hair to be 'cut' in toward the ear.

While these tools are very good, they can be a little frightening and so it is something of a relief that the set comes with a very useful manual. This covers the basic use of each tool and also how to achieve various hair effects. Most time is spent describing the use of the trimmer to produce everything from a medium or long cut through to a crew-cut, including techniques for 'outlining' your ears.

The guide does recommend leaving your hair long for the first few cuts until you've built up some confidence with the techniques. This advice I think is very well given!

The set comes with a soft pouch to keep everything together along with a small bottle of oil - there are a number of warnings that the blades must be oiled before each use.

The intent of the set is to allow the well groomed male to keep that well groomed look between trips to the hair dresser. This is emminently sensible and can save considerable time and money. Personally I find the hair atop my head stays looking neat for quite a while, but that in the mean time the hair on the nape of my neck runs wild. The trimmer is ideal for patching this up!

I really like the WAHL Deluxe Gift set and while I might not be up to some of the more adventurous uses at this time it still offers ample opportunities for a quick trim before important meetings. Checking on Amazon I was very surprised to find the WAHL Deluxe Gift Set available for only £21.02 including free delivery - a price at which this set presents excellent value and an ideal present for the guy that likes (and is confident enough) to look after their own hair.
