Prestigio Phone PAP5430

A European Phone and Tablet company that had a brief foray in the UK a few years ago, now they are back backed by the biggest name in chips in their phones Intel. So what has the Multiphone PAP5430 got to offer users?

The first thing is a very good price point of around 50% of a similar phone by others in the same area.

The Prestigio MultiPhone PAP5430 measures 12.5x6.3x.5cm and weights 133grams. First a minus point, currently it only comes with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) but an upgrade is promised this year.

Now for some good stuff, it is sold unlocked so you can use any SIM in it. It has an 8MP camera which takes rather good images and videos.

The viewable screen is 9.5x5.5cm. Unlike a lot of recent phones the 2000mAh battery is replaceable. Flip off the back and insert your SIM card and any micro SD card you may want to increase the supplied memory.

The processor is by Intel (which they make a big thing of) it’s a 1.2GHz Atom offering. The viewable screen is 960x540 pixels and even small print is very sharp and easy to read.

The top has on/off button and 3.5mm jack socket. The right side volume up/down rocker and further down the quick camera button. The base is clear. The left side has a micro USB port. Everything else is controlled from within the screen.

On first bootup you are given the chance to download a range of items some of which are not available in the Android Play Store like Angry Birds a most addictive game. Other software provided includes a perfectly acceptable Office package.

The PAP5430 is available in Black or White, both looked fine and the one I have is perhaps the more serviceable Black. The screen surround is not that reflective, the back has a tiny diamond pattern that seems to stay fingermark free. The screen is however reflective so of course the fingermarks do show but they wipe away with a soft cloth. Prestigio provide a slip case so the screen should be protected.

Also in the box along with the slip case is a micro USB to USB lead and a plug end to allow you to charge from the mains, also a reasonable set of earbuds.

I found the phone quite responsive and it worked well on Wi-Fi as well as when out of Wi-Fi range. The calls I made were clear both from my end and those I was calling. The range of Apps provided is good and of course you can download the full range of free and paid Apps from the Android play Store.

While I have only been using it for a few weeks it has performed well and the slip case has done its job of protecting it in my pocket or bag. I will add a comment to the review when the Android update becomes available.

At its price point it is bound to score highly on valve, it has lots of features including extras, the performance is quite acceptable, it is easy to use and has lots of guides for the novice in the book reader section, this leaves design and I see nothing wrong there either. The only minus is the – current - lack of the latest version of Android.

The Prestigio PAP5430 is available from the link below for £190.50 with free delivery.

Hi,

Loving  the handset but does anyone know how to transfer calender, notes, messages, contacts etc from Nokia E72 - mine won't connect via bluetooth.
Is getting a large (16GB +) micro sd card the solution.

Also having problems connecting to iPad via bluetooth - any solutions?

Thanx in advance!
