the KF510 phone from LG is 10x5x1cm and weights a tad over 100grams. Push the slider up and the 10cm length is increased by 3cm and this reveals the 12 keys of the keypad.

The right side has a metallic plug covering the input point charging, and proprietary earbuds and transfer cables. Also on this side is the on/off slider and combined camera/MP3 button.

Both the base and the top are clear and the left side has two buttons to increase and decrease the volume. The very top of this side has a wrist strap anchor point. While when you slide the front up it reveals the 3mega pixel camera with flash and a tiny mirror .5cm round that enables you to take your own image.

The viewable screen is 4.5x3.4cm while the 4x2.5cm area below has the five positions of a joystick plus two soft buttons to correspond with the items at the bottom of the screen and towards the bottom the normal call and end call buttons. This area stays live for ten seconds after a key is pressed and this is also the default time before the screen blanks.

The screen shows reception quality, volume level, battery state and time on the top line. The phone provider on the line under and by default a skyscraper background with a larger date and time display superimposed, towards the bottom is yet another time and date with the two soft buttons underneath showing menu and contacts.

Pressing the menu button produces four rows of three choices that can be accessed by either using the keys of the joystick or the keypad.

The options are Games & Apps, Call History, Organiser, Multimedia, Messaging, My Stuff, Profiles, Contacts, Tools, Browser, Connectivity and Settings. As there are only the buttons previously mentioned the unit is almost totally controlled from the menus.

This phone has an ALC (auto luminescence control0 that alters the brightness according to surrounding lighting, it seems to work quite well.

The phone seems to come in two colours Stardust Dark Grey and Sunset Red. It of course has Bluetooth but only a very small amount of free internal memory. You will certainly need a micro SD card. This slot is revealed only when the screen is slid upwards, unusually it is not inside the rear of the unit.

Removing the back should be easy but I found it fiddly, once removed take out the Lithium Ion battery to revel a tray to take your sim card.

Making and receiving calls was no problem as was taking both video and still camera shots. Once you had told it to store them on Micro SD transfer was also easy. Sorting and playing MP3 was also fine and a reasonable sound level can be output from the unit or for everyone's peace of mind use the earbuds.

As always finding a price for mobile phones is rather like finding the best price for bananas it varies almost daily. The various phone shop companies offer it from free upwards on various contracts; expect to pay around £200 or a bit more for a sim free version.
