Fun and Push E-Mail

Is it a phone, a camera or a media player? Perhaps like the Sony Ericsson K510i it might handle all three.

Sony ericsson w510i phoneAs part of its "snap shot" range of offerings, Sony Ericsson has released its K510i model.  This is a Triple Band GPRS handset.  The product is available in either Midnight Black or Polished Purple.

Stylish without being pretentious, the K510i combines the useful aspects of being compact in size and light in weigh.  The unit measures 101.5 x 44 x 17.5mm and weighs in at 82g.  To turn this phone on/off requires you to press a small button located right next to the infrared port on the top of the unit.  I found this button rather small and a little difficult to press with my stubby fingers but at least it does resolve the problem of accidentally switching the device on/off which was a fault I encountered with a previous Sony Ericsson phone.

A 1.8 inch TFT screen capable of displaying 262,144 colours is positioned just above a standard alphanumeric keypad headed by an array of action buttons and a joystick control.  With a resolution of 128 x 160 pixel, this screen is perfectly adequate for the task of displaying information, photos and video clips plus playing the supplied games.  The K510i's 1.3 megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom is located on the back of the unit.

This is ideal for taking snapshots of landscapes and other people but does mean you have to rely on the small silver coated mirror next to the camera to take self-portraits.  Leaving the subject matter aside, I felt that the mirror was barely adequate for lining up an acceptable shot of my visage.  Some might say such images would benefit greatly from the use of the supplied face-warping feature.  Still and video clips can be captured then send to others; used as wallpaper; or edited using the PhotoDJ feature found in the Entertainment section.

While on the subject of entertainment, you can use this phone to store music tracks in the handsets internal 28MB of memory; create playlists; and play tracks courtesy of the built-in media player. You also get a couple of reasonable games which I found to be very playable.

All the expected phone features are provided along with several PDA type offerings.  A missed call feature could prove invaluable for keeping in contact while call diverting can be used whenever necessary.  A picture or specific ring tone can be associated with individual contacts.  Both speed dialling and voice control are supported and conference calls can be set up although I have to admit I have not tested this particular feature.

Connectivity with other devices comes in the form of a USB cable, infrared and Bluetooth.  There is support for push e-mail for those who can not bear to be out of the loop for even the most minimal amount of time.  The handset's PC synchronisation software will ensure that you can link and keep up-to-date with various Outlook modules.

The K510i's rechargeable battery provides up to 7 hours of talk time with a standby time rated at up to 360 hours.  For those looking for a "pay as you go" phone, the K510i is a reasonable solution that will cost around £100 and provide various connectivity options, fun effects and push e-mail.

I have the same problem as AzilForce.
May i know if you take out the battery to get it work? Or any better way?

But it only happen after 1 year... As I require more memory nowadays... when your friends wanna share thier song / movie / picture with you...

Besides this (28MB limitation), I enjoy it!

this phone so not nice to be used with me, because the memory can corrupt easy and if you run out of memory, phone will be display long Sony Ericsson logo at start-up. it take about 30min to back to normal. is hard to say, that phone can shut down it self without any notice, not batery problem. it's memory and processor hang.

It's an OK phone with LOADS of features such as: a camera, video player, voice recorder, bluetooth, music DJ and much more! However the memory is RUBBISH and you can only fit 3 short songs on the MP3 Player! For the first year that I had this phone it was great, but after 1 year it started freezing and the battery said it was empty when I had just charged it up! I don't really like the style of this phone, I like flip or slidey phones the best, that's why I'm getting the Samsung E250v for christmas! But don't get me wrong it's a reasonably good phone! (Kinda)

I've got this phone for over a year now, call quality is great, battery life is great also. The mega pixel camera really makes this phone stand out,but it has some lighting issues though an service reception is excellent. The major problem that I have with this phone is that because of its design, dust tends to get down into the joystick area an the joystick eventually stops working untill I remove the phone's face an clean the inside.

I was looking on the internet for a phone that was reasonably priced and had an mp3 player. I was impressed by the phone when i saw it and quickly went to the nearest shop to buy it. I found out that for the price i paid i got much more such as a 1.3 m.p camera. Its an excellent phone and i would recommend it to evryone whose looking for a reasonably priced phone with all the features.

I needed a cheap pay as you go mobile that wasnt expensive but had the usual gadget stuff (ie : camera / video mp3 compatibility) and this phone come to my attention. I paid £69.99 from THE LINK (or £59.99 for the phone if you buy £10.00 credit = £69.99) The phone is very lightweight and very slick. nice looking phone. I ended up buying 2 of them (one for the missus) and cheekily asked the salesman for a discount if I bought 2. He gave me the phones in total for £110.00 and the 2 x £10.00 Credit. Sony could have been a little bit more generous on the memory. Id recomend this phone to anyone who is on a budget but doesnt want to end up with a dull mobile phone.
