Laptop Mouse Platform and Wireless Mouse

Image of author
While I personally am quite happy using a Trackpad I know a lot of people do not like them but in certain situations such as using a laptop on your lap there is nowhere to put the mouse not so here. Having a mouse platform then this is the ideal mouse to use with it.

Laptop Mouse Platform

Do not be put off by the terrible instructions this is a simple product and I have used it with a 10inch Netbook and two larger laptops, whatever the size the setup is the same, and yes I am left handed so it can fit either side of your machine.

In all you will need around 20cm of space to one side or the other of your machine but this does not need to be firm space as it grips the side of your machine. The total depth required is 21cm meaning that there is 13x12cm area to move your mouse.

In front of this is a gel pad to ergonomically rest your wrist on so no RSI should effect you how ever long you use it.

Basically there is the pad and a side pod that fits either side of the main pad to the left to use with your right hand and to the right to use with your left hand. A small slide out from the pod allows the fixing of the main pad and the central section hides a small Allen key that is then used to tighten two screws to get an exact fit for your Netbook/Laptop/Notebook.

It needs around 8cm of depth and around 4cm of width. With a Netbook you do not have quite that but in my case it just covered a couple of the cursor keys on the bottom right (yes I said right) of the keypad. Even though I am left handed I learn the best part of twenty years ago to use a mouse right handed. If on the left side it might cause more problems as that would cover the Fn and left Ctrl keys which might in the case of FN key be a problem.

If you use it on more than one notebook do not try to pull the unit off use the Allen key that is stored in the centre of the pod attachment – you did put it back didn’t you – to undo the screws so the grip will remain firm.

Available from the link below for £20, which also has a very good video to show how easy it is to assemble.

Logitech Wireless Mouse M305

This came to me last year and for several reasons never got to be looked at. However as the wireless receiver fits inside the top of the mouse together with the single ‘AA’ battery it is ideal to go out and about with any laptop.

The mouse is small – but not miniature – it is light and the wireless controller is tiny. The single ‘AA’ battery last a good while.

The mouse is 9.5x5x3cm and with the battery and transmitter inside weights only 92grams, the transmitter is 2grams of that.

The transmitter is 1.8x1.3x.5cm with only just enough to grip protruding from the USB port so of course you leave it in place when you place your laptop in its bag or case to move it around.

The base of the mouse has a simple slider switch to turn it on/off so even if you do not use it for a while there is no battery drain from the battery. The only other control is another slider to allow the back of the top of the mouse to come off to change the battery or to insert or remove the wireless controller. Very neat and easy to use.

The Logitech Wireless Mouse M305 is available in a range of colours from £20.40.
