Altec Lansing VS2621 Speakers

This is a rather nice 2.1speaker system. 2.1 means two satellite speakers and a sub woofer. The speakers could be used with a PC or perhaps more likely as an output from a device such as an iPod or MP3 with a 3.5mm socket.

The satellites are 13.5x12x10cm maximum at the base and the latter is only 3.5cm at the top. The sub woofer is 12x22x26cm but as it is side firing is the 26cm actually the face? The sub woofer is made of wood coloured matt black, it has a silver grey ring round the speaker and the feet are the same colour both are not wood. The satellites are plastic, black in colour with the same silver grey colour for the trim.

A 1.5metre mains lead is hard wired into the back of the sub woofer. There is a flip master on/off switch on the rear of the sub woofer. The other connector on the back of the sub woofer is a nine pin DIN socket and the 1.5metre thicker lead (also carries power to the satellites) for this is hard wired to the back of the right satellite speaker that has volume and tone controls on the front together with an Aux input socket. The rear has two thinner wires hard wired the first 1.5metres long to the left speaker and the second 1.8metres long is the 3.5mm jack lead.

I would have like a longer mains lead and a longer lead between the two speakers; say another metre on each would be ideal.

Sound quality was very good and there is good sound and tone adjustment on the control knobs. Certainly there is added base to the output that you just do not normally hear with some other speaker sets and certainly not with headphones or earbuds.

These are a nice small set of speakers that will get the best from a PC or notebook enabling you to enjoy music or movies far more than a lot of other similar types of speaker sets that often give a very flat sound experience.

A thirty page ‘safety’ manual is included but no guide on use or setup of the speakers, not really required but do we really need to be told not to immerse the unit in water etc, still with certain crazy rules I suppose that we do.

Technical stuff, two 2" (50mm) full-range drivers and one 4" (100mm) side-firing subwoofer. Sound pressure level: 93dB. Total continuous power: 28Watts RMS, each speaker: 7.5 Watts per channel @ 8 Ohms @ 10% THD @ 200 Hz - 20 kHz.  Subwoofer:13Watts @ 4 Ohms @ 10% THD @ 50 Hz - 200 Hz single channel loaded. System response:45 Hz - 18 kHz (-10 dB)  Signal to noise ratio @ 1 kHz input:>65 dB.

Doing my Internet searches found the Altec Lansing VS2621 Speakers at a best price of £39.97 from the first link below but currently some sites are showing a different model for illustration purposes. The price shown on theAltec Lansing site (2nd link) is only £39.99. However when I click on the links shown the best price at the time of writing is the one from the link given.
