Greeting Card Factory Deluxe V6

With Christmas and the New Year both a distant memory, and the belt needing to be tightened by several notches any saving is worthwhile, so making your own greetings cards is certainly a possibility.

This product comes in a full sized software box. It is also heavy enough to contain a meaningful manual. In fact this is a paperback sized book of 260 pages all in English.

The box does list the requirements on the side but a sticker is applied to the front modifying those to state you need a DVD-ROM as this is supplied on a DVD. The install is not quick but then it is transferring over 3GB of data to the PC. With this amount of data it is surely better to be on one DVD than having to insert and remove five CD's. The program installs in around twenty minutes but then you need to install Microsoft Net Framework 3 and this takes a further five minutes. In all my hard disc has 6.9GB less space.

My confusion grows, the box says Greetings Card Factory Deluxe with a lozenge saying version 6. The DVD case in the box says exactly the same. As does the DVD itself. However the installer calls it version 7 and indeed when you run it so does the program. Should you ferret to the bottom of the cardboard inner of the box you find an addendum sheet entitled Greeting Card Factory 6 Addendum giving the new features and saying that the version included is version 7. How I ask do you know if you are getting V6 or V7. My guess and it's only a guess is look for the DVD-ROM sticker on the front of the box that also says Works with Windows Vista.

Once you have made your initial choices the installer does not need you to be there so enjoy your coffee or lunch, before you leave make sure you select A4 rather than letter, when you return allow Net Framework 3 to install.

In use the manual will suggest you search templates you should select browse templates. In fact the browse tab probably replaces search most of the time and reacts a lot quicker. Another tip given on the addendum sheet is to reduce the size of the thumbnails in Insert Graphics or Replace Graphics to enable you to see and select your designs a lot quicker. Finally the bit that always make my heart sink for more details on how to use the new features see the PDF file on the DVD.

When you open the program the choices are Choose a Template or Design from Scratch, you could also Open a Project, go to Help or the Tutorial. This is a splash screen that can be turned off as behind it you can see the interface waiting for input.

As a novice if you do the Tutorial you will know how to get to where quicker. The other sensible option is to select a Template. There are 16 classifications all with sub folders underneath. They are Announcements and Invitations, Calendars, Certificates, Crafts, Electronic Greetings, Envelopes & More, Gift Tags, Greetings Cards (the default) Labels, Matching Sets, Note Cards, Photo Cards, Postcards, Signs & Posters, Specialty Cards and finally Web Projects.

No space for much detail here so if you select Labels there are a total of 451 labels some could be a label, others a business card and others designed for a CD face. A proportion of these are designed to work with Avery pre sized label sheets.

Of course all these can be worked on you can add or delete text or graphics. There are close to 90,000 graphics included in the package, once added you can manipulate image or text very easily.

Doing my Internet searches found Greetings Card Factory Deluxe at a best price of £29.98 including free delivery from the first link below.
